I saw this 'special'...and it's JUST RACIST!!!!

I should have titled this "Attention multimillion dollar popular Black male comedian".

Chris Rock is just rehashing old material into new old material for a later broadcast. Yes, I know he is bothered by white people, and strippers with gravity problems, but he's just beating a dead horse. I'd like to talk to the people who said he's the number 1 comedian in the world...or wherever. Oprah likes having him on her show so she'll have someone with a dumber laugh than hers.

Chris Rock, you suck. And that isn't racist! It's the truth!

reply

Perhaps you could provide some examples of his "racism".

I'm 17, female and white and I found it hilarious. I mean yeah somethings are a little bit beaten in to our heads, and have been said over and over again, but its funny. Most stuff that he says is true and it has really nothing to do with being racist. He is just as hard on black people as he is on white people most of the time. I don't really look at most of the stuff as being rasist just it being funny. I like Dave Chappelle too and he says things just as bad as Chris Rock sometime. It is just comedy people nothing to get to defencive about.

"If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say...Sit Next to Me!"

reply

I couldn't have said it better myself. And we're both 17. BTW: he is hilarious (for some reason my sister doesn't think so. I wonder why.)

Unable to stay, Unwilling to leave. "You jump. I jump, right?"

reply

I'm a female and not a racist. I've just been exposed to Chris Rocks "comedy" too often. It's the same warmed over crap he's been doing for years. I'm just expressing my opinion on this board. Just like you. So get over it, douchebag.

"Scott(Stevens), you and I have done this before. Come get the Cup!"

Sorry if that is a dumb question, it's an american word and I'm British and I've heard this word in many films but never could work out what is means.

reply

I wouldn't of minded more of the talk about the white man keeping the black man down if there were bigger laughs. It's been five years since Bigger and Blacker, and there were just a few too many instances where he gave more 'applause' lines than laugh lines. The one thing I thought he exaggerated on was when he talked about affirmative action and said during slavery if black people weren't big and strong and powerful, they were killed and "if you read you die". I know it's the set-up for the "octagon" punchline, but it's just too much set-up, not a bang enough of a pay off....that being said, it wasn't a bad lot of material- the celebrity jokes stole the show:

Ed Bradley: "Now, Michael, do you think that it is appropriate for a 45 year old man to sleep in the same bed with a 14 year old boy?"
MJ- Yes!
Ed Bradley: "Now, would you let one of your children sleep with a 45 year old man"
MJ- Yes!

Ok,

For almost a month I was hounded by friends to see this comedy special so I went to my local blockbuster and tried to rent the damn thing. However, my local BB blows simply because they constantly pull all the DVD's off the shelf after a month and sell them and seem to keep the VHS, and I can only ask WHY???

Anyway, so i bought this used for $14.99 and after watching it I wanted my money back. As far as Chris Rock is concerned I don't find him funny anymore. The only HBO special he ever id that I LMAO over was "Bring The Pain". I found "Bigger and Blacker" to be a waste of 60 mins of my life, and this was an even bigger waste.

I never found it to be racist, although he teetered on the border a few times, but it really wasn't, however the jokes were not that good. Hell give me a dime bag and 5 beers and I can be funnier than Chris Rock without being repetitive. I am sorry but, Chris should just stick to doing movies. I found him extremely funny when he did Dogma and other films, but his stand up is just the same tired a$$ bullsh*t.

reply

Eh, I thought it was OK. Bring the Pain was extremely funny, but Never Scared wasn't that bad and wasn't that good.

The best line was "Maybe we'd all have more money if we stopped blowing it on rims. They spinnin' *beep* they spinnin!"

He did make a good point about being rich vs. being wealthy.

"Shaq's rich...the white guy who signs his check is wealthy"

Also, the joke about Michael Jackson showing up for court looking like Captain Crunch was hilarious.

My rating would be about 6-6.5/10.

just because it's true doesn't mean it's not racist

reply

chris isnt a racist like one of these people said..."he's just as hard on black people as he is on white people." btw, in his special in 1996, 'Bring the Pain', he compared black people and n!!!!rs...so call him racist,...right

reply

The things that annoyed me the most in "Never Scared" that Rock said were how he was talking about "It's alright, because it's all white!" and how he was talking about there are no wealthy black people. Also, Rock also has a habbit of "re-using" material, an example of this is:

White mall/mall white people used to go to: Used it in "Down to Earth" and guest hosting SNL

Blind guys/Doctors don't cure diseases: Used it in "Bigger and Blacker" and the same episode guest hosting SNL (it's all in the monologue BTW)

There is probably more but I don't have the time or patience.

He also brings up a molestering uncle in "Bigger and Blacker" and "Never Scared" but maybe that's just normal. I haven't seen "Bring the pain". BUT putting aside all of that I am actually a big fan of Rock and own: "Bigger and Blacker", "Never Scared", "Dogma", "SNL: Best of Chris Rock", "Jay and Silent Bob strike back", "Nurse Betty" and even "Beverly Hills Ninja". I have been looking around for "New Jack City" and will hope to pick it up soon.

Why is it everytime a black man speaks in favor of his race, everyone calls him a racist, but when others do it they are just being "loyal to their people" and "misunderstood" by the "racists"?

reply

I'm a big fan of Chris Rock and I think he's smart and funny.

I didn't really mind the political points that much but I didn't like the way he kept on repeating phrases over and over again because I got it the first time and it kind of killed it a little.

reply

He said in an interview that he picked up the habit of repeating phrases from preachers. I think he may have picked it up from George Carlin who also likes to repeat phrases when he's making a point.

Personal motto: What Would Jon Stewart Do?

"Why is it everytime a black man speaks in favor of his race, everyone calls him a racist, but when others do it they are just being "loyal to their people" and "misunderstood" by the "racists"?"

Dude are you for real? Chris is hilarious no doubt but you simply can't deny that much of his material is racist. Only the white man can profit from pain? Give me a f*#kin' break. Can you possibly imagine a white comedian saying such things about blacks and getting away with it? I think not.

It's ironic really, considering the message that Rock is trying to get through, that black comedians can get away with saying just about anything because they're black. I have to admit that I don't really care, I thought it was funny anyway, but it's pretty racist.

What's even more ironic is that there will probably be a multitude of people who will now accuse me of being racist just for suggesting all this. And that's really gonna hurt my feelings, man.

I have seen EVERYTHING that Chris Rock have been involved in and the stand-up shows are the best!

What the hell is this racist-talk? He is making fun of the sosial issues around America! Is making fun of all this ridiculous hypes and stereotypes in society rascism? He actually see many things that people usually don't have the guts to critisize or talk about. Many "gangsters" and famous black people that get potraited on MTV etc. (and they really make themself look that way), seems like they have NO respect for money and that they don't have the self-respet to even be themself! If they did, they would not all act and look the same! Bling-bling! They really make a parody of themself! This is on TV EVERYDAY! Is someone a racist for making a reamark on it???

As he said: "There is black people and theres *beep* That is true! There is also white people and there is white trash!

He makes fun of black people, white people, poor, rick etc! Put all these together and you have a society and that is what he makes fun of: SOCIETY!

The most genious thing that he do, is make seroius issues funny! That is a way to make pepole start to think and listen! People mostly block out things that don't match their reality! Chris Rock makes that harder, because he makes most people laugh while doing it!

If you don't think he makes many good points, you need to start seeing society with some cleared up eyes! All the 4 different shows are not the same! How can they be? He always bring up new things from the media every time! If the issues sounds similar to you in every show, you should blame your society, not Chris Rock! He is just the messenger, not the president!

People give him the material! If you get tired of the issues, society need to makes changes before the issues change!
