The only people who like this movie are Jap wannabes

There is no deep japanese psychology working here, it's just a horrible movie that doesn't know what it wants to be.

reply

What does Japanese psychology have to do with it? It's a movie and I enjoy it.

You have no idea what war is like. - Tetsuya aka Casshern.

reply

I didnt think so, thought it was amazing and its not psychology is philosophy. Story was insane and the CGI looked beautiful was confussing for a bit til the dude explained everything at the end.

reply

Depends on what story you're talkin about as the original anime was amazing but this one as a movie is full of crap. So much holes in the plot, it doesnt matter if he cant condense the story. Why not make the first part of the film introducing the character and the world and in Casshern 2, bring in the big fights.

This movie might not be all about story i guess. Its all action. Its a pop corn flick for the ones who dont like thinking. You want a good story? watch Death Note both anime and movie and see how its done.

This is one those movies made with the sole purpose of being MST3Ked.

reply

No it's not. It's a great movie.

reply

This is a great movie mianly because of the existential questions that arose from the story. I greatly applaud the fact there is no clear cut antagonist or protagonist, which really imitates real life.

reply

I'm a jap wannabe... because I like a movie... that happens to be Japanese...I can't imagine the original poster being more than 12 years old.

You just basically gave credit to the whole eastern film making industry, because they prefer to make characters "grey", instead of the traditional, western "black & white".

Casshern is in no way unique in this, but simply easternly ordinary.

reply

Yes, clearly the title is no indication as to who or protagonist is. No clear cut protagonist indeed. Certainly, it is not Casshern, the robot hunter.

I have already discussed what makes this film so terrible. It is maudlin and filled with plot holes the size of grand canyon. The trite little message at the end made me think I was watching something that was the combination of a bad anime and an after-school special.

reply

That's hog wash. A protagonist is simply the main character which this story clearly has. An antagonist is who ever opposes the protagonist(s) which this movie clearly has. This movie also has a clear hero and villain as well protagonist simply wants to be with his dying mother and the antagonists get in his way simply because bad things happened to them in the past.

The reason this movie brings up questions is because it's poorly done.

Yes there is, not it's not and yes it does.

See how perfect, logical in-depth arguments should not work? Try justifying your opening post with exactly where you decided that there was no Japanese depth or psychology and that the film was actually taking stabs in the dark, or you'll just look like another idiot who defames that which they don't care to understand.

I, personally, found this film an incredibly deep, thought-provoking experience with its themes of family, war, power, and the protracted and actualised battles between science and the gods; anyone who says there simply wasn't anything there must have been watching a different movie. I can understand how people may claim their views that the philosophies and thematic endeavours portrayed in the film may not have been coherent or well-represented, but to say the film was simply terrible for the reason that it had nothing deep about it, or similar claims, are just idiotic.

The title of this thread should display its true value.

It confesses its worthlessness.

I think, what you're blithering on about, could be called subjective. As in, any @rse watching a flic.

Get off yer feckin' horse. It could've been "deep," but it wasn't.

What a narrow-minded view. A Japanese sci-fi with a "Japanese style" can't be enjoyed by people who aren't Japanese or Wapanese? Why?

You're treating them as a certain group of people, and even going as far as saying only they can like what they make. That's racist. And all in an attempt to insult people... Well, you, sir, insult more than you think.

My problem with this movie is that it is messy and its use of CGI and digital animation is at least 10 years behind its time. The concept isn't too bad its just that it is, for the most part, poorly presented and the circumstances come off as random. The production quality just isn't there. To say that this movie had great CGI would be like saying that 1997's Spawn had great CGI, it just isn't true both had terrible CGI. There were some scenes in this movie that looked really good but that was usually ruined by the extremely ammature visual effects. It's not that this movie didn't have some good material to offer, it is that it was so disjointed and marred by technical flaws that it was hard to appreciate.

lol. troll comment. won't dignify a response. anyone who's watched the anime knows that this is an excellent adaptation. calling people "jap wannabes" on this messageboard only exposes you as a trolling hipocrite, as you'd never even know about this movie unless you searched it out, after watching at least some part of teh animu.

my guess is you're just a dumb fat kid who wants to be heard.

reply

This movie is fantastic. Simple as. The CGI style they chose looks odd but certainly not dated, simply because this is a heavily stylised movie, they are not going for realism.

The story and moral questions it raises are, while certainly unsublte ( War is bad) still force us to question ourselves and the world ( Who's the real enemy?).

Soundtrack is also epic.

Ya know the word "Jap" is very derogatory and considered an ethnic slur. I'm surprised all those who replied to this thread didn't change the title in their replies
