Badly in need of a proper Blu-ray

This film really needs a proper Blu-ray release. The only one so far is the butchered German Blu-ray that doesn't offer English subtitles, and is sped up and a different cut. We really need a release with 1080p 24hz video, the original Japanese cut, and English subtitles. I don't need an English audio track, I'd never use it. This movie came out a couple years too early to hit Blu-ray to begin with, but someone needs to go ahead and put one out. Either Japanese and region free with English subs, or a US release that isn't the crappy dumbed down cut that Dreamworks has put out on DVD (the only official American release, which I don't like at all). Even DVD-wise I've had to import the real version of the movie as it was intended.

The German Blu-ray isn't the first release, it has an Italian Blu-ray which was released two years prior. And I wouldn't say that the German release is butchered, it's all there visually. It's just the audio that's been altered. And for a 1080/50i release, the picture is pretty good. I've used it as a demo material since my TV and player can handle 1080/50i.

The Italian Blu-ray is 1080p and has Japanese and Italian DTS-HD 5.1 audio and Italian subs. I don't know if the Italian release has the same Japanese audio as the German Blu-ray does, but I am guessing it's the same. One big con with the Italian release is that if you chose Japanese, the Italian subtitles are forced. The film must have been a hit with Italian audiences, the film even got an HD-DVD release before the format died out.

I would have bought the HD DVD since it's region-free, but as there were no English subtitles, it didn't make sense to purchase it. I agree with the original poster, this definitely needs an un-cut Region A Blu-ray release.
