This movie has been in my watch list for over 4 years but I got to see it only yesterday. Its evident many here on this board do not seem to like its arcane techno-spiritual concepts but I loved it and the music was great. A superb movie!!
If you know any movies like these that mix Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Action, irrespective of the language, please share it here! many thanks.
have seen this as well and agree the visuals were great but the story was wafer thin. See Tykho Moon by the same director. Its a little old but a good movie. thanks for the reply.
Just watched Mutant Chronicles http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0490181/. I was pretty well entertained. I loved the world they created and the mix of old and new technology. The world had a similar visual feel to that in Casshern.
If you haven't seen 'Repo: The Genetic Opera', I would give that a try.
The visuals have similarities. Massive use of, while not amazing CGI, it gets the point across well. Also, it's a a very dark futuristic scifi world.
I honestly didn't care much for 'Casshern' though. Not a bad movie, but nothing truly amazing about it. 'Repo' I love though. So, take my suggestion for what it's worth if you haven't seen it yet.
And... it is a musical.
Anyone who still has faith in humanity has never been to the imdb boards.
Well, I have the DVD of 'Repo -The Genetic Opera' but still didn't see it though cos I dont relish musicals. I will take your advice and watch it this week. Thanks.
so i'm a little confused. you asked about others movies like this one, and mentioned it's metaphysical themes. yet most of the replies and such have been fairly centered around the bluescreen and or manga focused influences...
which of course is fine, but if it's metaphysical you're looking for, thats a different direction. have you had a good dose of terrence Malick lately?
The Cup Of Tears by Gary Shore should be released soon. there's a trailer at http://www.vimeo.com/5957763 that shows it looking very similar to Casshern
I can think of a couple films that encompasses the elements of this film similarly. First is a South Korean film called 'Natural City'. Here's the imdb link:
'Natural City' has some good action in it, but it's strong suit is that it has a story with thought behind it. There are multiple opposing forces in this one: rebel cyborgs and the military (kinda like 'Casshern'). Also, most of the film was made in blue screen too.
Another film I have to mention is an anime called 'Tekkon Kinkreet'. One of my top 10 favorite anime films. It has multiple story lines that collide throughout and has lots of thought and emotion behind it.
