Did anyone else love it?

I thought it was a very beautiful and thought provoking piece of work.
I liked how they kept a lot of Jack Burden's narration in the film.
I heard in the film a lot of the parts that stood out to me in the novel.
My favorite parts are the romance between Jack and Anne, and when
Willie makes his first powerful speech at the fair and anounces he will
be running for governor next time around. I can't imagine why more people
didn't like this film.
Most of the words were taken straight from the classic novel.
When Willie is preaching to the working class people, it's moving.
It was undeniably great acting and great dialogue.
When young Jack and Anne are at Jack house alone,
the looks on their faces are priceless. Great acting.
On a superficial note, the fact that Kate Winslet and Jude
are my two favorite actors probably added to me loving that love scene.
One of my favorite quotes from the movie: "There are only a few moments
that determine your life and then they are gone. Forever."
All the performances were wonderful.
They say a lot with the slightest look.
I mean, who cares if Anthony Hopkins
didn't put on a southern accent, Anthony Hopkins rules!
LoL He is the best, I love his voice. Judge Irwin was supposed to be powerful and intimidating and Hopkins pulled it of brilliantly.
My only real criticim is of the ending.
They cut out some really important parts and the ending that ended up in the
movie, just wasn't the best.

Yes! I absolutely loved it. I don't understand why so many people disliked it. It had all the elements of a classic film. . . great plot, fascinating characters, history, great directing and cinematography, excellent cast.

You´re absolutely right. This is no "must see" film, but a high class performance from the actors and a good and entertaining story.

Sean Penn shouts away the quietness now and then, but there is a lot of room in between to think... Maybe it is not fast enough for some (young?) people.

I gave it 8/10 and don´t really understand the average 6 as it stands right now. Very underrated due to opinion.

I love it too, and much as I admire Broderick Crawford's evolution from hick, good-hearted ol' boy to vicious self-aggrandizer, this movie flat nailed it, as much as that rich book could be turned into a movie. And I could tell a lot of love and respect for Robert Penn Warren's beauty of a classic went into it.

Just watched it and I loved it, too. It's a complex work that makes a lot of interesting implicit philosophical points. Plus it's a captivating story, it has great performances, etc.

I just started looking at the comments here on IMDb, but I was surprised to see so many negative comments on Netflix.

PBS made a documentary a few years ago that was great. It focuses on Huey Long's whole life and has quite a few living witnesses who knew Huey.

I'm sorry, i've looked for it at pbs, but I cant find it. But it gave a great picture of the man. It's probably about 20 years old.

The documentary by Ken Burns on Huey Long can be purchased on Amazon. It is excellent.

As for 'All the King's Men' I enjoyed it very much but wish it could have been at least an hour longer to flesh out the story. As the original poster also stated above I thought the narration bits in the film by Burden were very good and neat to have the actual words from the novel used in such a manner.

The quote "There are only a few moments that determine your life and then they are gone. Forever." was one of my favorites also.

The longer ending on the DVD was much better than the one used and truer to the novel.

Watched it again last night. The second time was better. The first time I was distracted by Sean Penn's over the top acting. This time I focused on the other characters and Penn's acting seemed much more in place. That speech at the fair knocked my socks off. I missed the impact of it the first time around. I think the problem is that I saw the first film and was expecting something like that but didn't get it. Anyway, Jack Burden's story was well done by Jude Law. I just wished they had given us a little more insight on why Adam ended up in the mental/psychological state he was in prior to the events. But yes, this was a fantastic movie. Kudos to Patricia Clarkson who I thought was brilliant.

Well, indeed, I do think this is a very underrated film, you know?
It has powerful performances, really good screenplay, smart direction and beautiful photography.
