In the clip where Stark tells Jack to make a note to find out where Senator Tucson's boy is locked up
and to get him a lawyer it seems to me they forgot to edit this part out. Unless I missed something there is no more reference to this to explain this story line. And then I am even more confused to what Jack writes on his pad. Stabbing, lawyer, Abe Lincoln? Lawyer I got, stabbing I get but why Abe Lincoln? Is it Jack being sarcastic about Stark's pickiness over the best lawyer to get? Like "Abe Lincoln" might work for you Stark! I don't know I just think this whole scene was never built up or explained anywhere in the movie. Unless of course I missed it , which is possible.

It was more fleshed out in the novel. I think the scene I s meant to show what sort of work Jack typically does for Stark, on a "normal" day. The "Abe Lincoln" reference is because that's the type of character they want in the lawyer they hire. An upstanding person not looking for personal attention, so the trial will be less likely to attract notice, making it more difficult to trace Stark's support of the man's defense back to him.
