What significance did the string around D.J.'s mother's fingers hold? If you don0t remember it was that one piece of string that was tied and then became untied towards the end of the film.
I also remember that when Sue first noticed the string she had some kind of connection with D.J.'s mother, a word, that the mother didn't respond to. The conversation dropped and their was nothing after that. What was the significance of this incident?
I think the string was just a sign of DJ's coming death.
Thats what his mom tells Sue the string is for.....to protect him.
I assume that it's a religious or superstitious string. In some Indian cultures, people will pray for something like good health, prosperity, or in this case someone's wellbeing (DJ).
DJ's mom prayed for his wellbeing and was therefore comfortable with his unpredictable lifestyle as shown earlier in the film.
When it unties, it foreshadows something bad will happen
