I REMEMBER Z CHANNEL

RACE WITH THE DEVIL which ran on Z Channel in February (or early March) of 1976 was the first cable movie I ever saw in LA.

I had Z Channel in the middle and late 1980s. They had great prints and great transmission. Lots of vintage classics from the 30s and 40s, too.

One day I was watching it and they announced some sports programming! I was stunned. I canceled the channel soon there after and soon there after they were gone.

There was still CineMax and The Movie Channel.

Nice times!

I grew up in Los Angeles, and the first movie I saw on cable uncut was Lenny around 1975 or 76.When I got my first pay cable service in 1982,Z was the first channel I got.I was in college, and Id read about a film or filmaker, and inevitably,Z would be showing it soon afterwards. When I went overseas, the only thing that made me feel better about leaving Z behind was having access to the BBC,and getting to see so many great films there, too.
