Koalas are Australian

Why is the character British?

reply

Haha i thought exactly the same thing...am i missing something?

I have to return some videotapes

reply

It was probably a typical sterotyping of what an Aussie may sound like, with a voice done by an American, I've never seen or heard the Koala talk in the movie but that's my guess regardless of seeing it or not.

But during the film, the Koala was also telling the other animals that he knew how to fight after growing up "on the streets of London"...

Typical American ignorance...

...

Or, because mostly all animals in zoos are not taken from the wild any more (this practice was stopped in the mid 1800's due to the declining wild populations)- but instead from breeding programs in other zoos (or from people who illegally purchased the animals)... so most likely, the Koala came from a zoo in London.

Do some research before you post, yes?

Get your hand off it, mate.

Maybe it was a joke about the fact that many US citizens can't tell the difference between Australians and British ?

reply

probably. i'm not laughing

reply

Maybe it was a dig at the British colonizing and enslaving half the world? Maybe, since the Koala was so fat and stupid they gave it a British accent for realism?

reply

Hey, let's all complain about the koala not having the right accent (as far as talking koalas go), while completely ignoring all the African animals with American accents. Alrighty.

And anyway, I don't care what accent the koala had - I thought he was pretty much the only entertaining character in this. (And I lived in Australia for 10 years, so I do know what an Aussie is "supposed" to sound like...)

Hey, start your own thread about African animals not being African. This one is about koalas.

reply

I know i thought that too, why the Koala had a British accent is beyond me. I also noticed the Joey was American and of all things, the Flamingos sounded Australian.

Yeah! And why does the giraffe speak without an African Accent!? They did this because they thought it sounded better.
We should be able to post pictures on the boards!

I know right!! It implied that Koalas are British. I think an Aussie accent would have been more appropriate and mention that he actually comes from Australia. The poor kids are going to be all confused now thinking Koalas come from England! hahah

Oh and btw @rabidlizzy Koalas are so common on a South Australian island (called Kangaroo island) that they were looking at culling them. There are more than enough for the zoo's, take all you need!!!
