I can't believe how racist, homophobic, and sexist, this movie was

And I love this movie. Just being honest. Not in the way that I'd interpret it, but how the majority of twitter and other mob crowds would interpret it.

I mean yeah, it's actually quite racist, homophobic, and sexist, but it's amazing that 10-15 years ago we could write this off as a joke, and write any offense off as questionable characters in the plot. If this movie was made today and SC, PR, SR, were still unknown, their careers would've died with this movie underneath a tidal wave of pc outrage.

I'm actually amazed that the suite of actors in this movie haven't been targeted to apologize for their ignorance 13 years ago.

In a world where the U.S. Constitution is now considered "hate" speech, you're not far off...

More's the pity.

reply

Literally nobody thinks this. Nobody. That one liberal with blue lipstick doesn’t count.

reply

It's just so eye-rolling whenever some SJW throws around the word "homophobic."

Get real.

Do you even read my post, bro?

Apologise for what, being funny?

reply

Sorry, Man, for jumping the gun.

reply

No worries. The movie is still funny and that's all that matters :)

reply

You loved it

reply

It's a parody. It should be taken as that and no one should find offense in it.

reply

a parody of what?

reply

Apologies. Maybe Satire would have been a better word. Point is comedy should be taken as its meant: To get laughs and try to get people to take things less seriously.

reply

Isn't it more of a spoof?

reply

A parody is an alternative version of something - a side by side comedic look at a specific thing like a song, character or poem. For example a Weird Al’s song that parodies an actual song.
A spoof is similar in its mocking tone but it does so in a more generalised approach to a theme, genre etc. rather than say, one person, as a parody would be. For example Blazing Saddles is a spoof western.
A satire is a work which specifically shines a light on, often using exaggeration or humour, the shortcomings, vices etc of a person often, for example, a politician.

Judd Apatow could never make a movie like it today, he would be nicknamed Chud Apatow if he did.

reply

This is one of my all time favorite comedies!

You're right, you can't make movies like this anymore, or classics like Animal House, Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles, etc.

People today don't understand jokes or humor. They take everything literally, are ALWAYS on the defensive, and can't laugh at stupid shit that doesn't hurt anyone. People need to cherish movies like this, because they are done, and comedy itself is on really thin ice, because most of the "offended" people out there are young college aged kids. It's awful.

Grow a spine and learn to laugh at things you wouldn't normally laugh at. It makes life a whole lot more fun! Just because their is humor in a movie about race, gender, or sexual orientation, and just because you laugh at it, doesn't make you a racist, sexist, or homophobe.

You are a racist if you legitimately hate other races. You are a sexist if you legitimately hate the other gender. You are a homophobe if you hate gay people. If that isn't the case, then you have no problems, and it's ok to laugh about things sometimes.

reply

who are you talking to? The OP? he says he likes the movie

Its another case of people being outraged at imaginary SJWs again.

reply

I’m speaking to society basically. Not anyone in particular.

My 3rd paragraph, generalizing “people today”. Haha.

I’m not outraged by anything (if you are speaking to me, you did the same thing), just disappointed in the thin skin of a large number of people anymore who can’t take simple jokes based on race, gender, or stereotypes. They are destroying comedy.

reply

I think Ricky Gervais did a good standup routine about what you can and cant joke about .
You can imagine his take on the subject :)

reply

Gervais is great! He’s really become one of the go to comedians to piss off the offended world, and I love it!

I think George Carlin had the famous quote along the lines of “It’s the comedians job to find the line, and cross it deliberately.” Haha.

reply

OH hell yes you can!

reply

Look at the year it came out, and that will explain everything to you.

reply

The reasons you list are why its such a great funny film!
