Years ago I saw a magnificent film called y tu mama tambien starring mr bernal and mr luna and with the direction of Alejandro Cuaron..the on screen chemistry they have is just amazing...recently I saw Rudo y Cursi starring these two guys and the brother of alejandro cuaron in the director's chair..I said to myself..what could possibly go wrong with this movie?..I gave it a try and I was laughing all over in the movie..this movie is simply hillarious and it just shows you the life of two brothers living in a small town and suddenly one day, they have the opportunity of their lifetime..to play soccer in a professional team...the story is kinda similar like the story line in goal..but I liked this one better...I reccomend this movie with my eyes closed, and I can say that is the best movie of the year so far...so do yourself a favor..If you are going to see a movie this year..go and see "Bruno"...if you are going to see two movies this year...besides "bruno"..see "rudo y cursi"..you won't regret it...
It is a good movie indeed, but I wouldn't qualify it just yet as the best of the year. It certainly is one of the better movies I have seen so far. But another movie called "Sin Nombre/Without Name" was way more engaging, relavant, better acted and better directed, albeit dealing with a different subject matter.
Carlos Cuaron has to put forth more work before he comes close to his brother (?), the ilustrious and very talented Alfonso Cuaron. Just based on the impact the movie had on me personally, I thought "Y Tu Mama Tambien" was way more effective and better realized. Alfonso Cuaron went on to direct very different but equally good flicks. I loved "Harry Potter And The Prizoner Of Azkhaban" (it is still my favourite from the franchise), while "Children Of Men" was an unsung masterpiece.
Not that is not to say that "Rudo Y Cursi" is not a good movie, because it is. I especially liked how they paralleled their own lives with the game of football itself (ok soccer for North Americans). In the movie, football is the beautiful game, while life is its ugly counterpart.
The idea that the two brothers were more alive on the field than in their own lives was brilliant. They were so shortsighted and full of themselves and their egos and vices, that they failed to see what they were really meant to do was right in front of their eyes. Trully a case of not "not seeing the forest for the threes".
Still it is another solid effort and a great addition to the ever growing and expanding repertoire of Latinamerican cinema. Good job!

I just, I'm not sure how to put it. I didn't feel like it was fleshed out as deeply as it could be.
I don't know how else to describe it.
Would anyone mind a 3 hour epic futbol film about 2 brothers that really took its time, explored their bond as brothers and the collapse of this as they branch out into the world of professional futbol (including some really exciting actual footage of futbol, not just overhearing an announcer talk about it)?
I know that wasn't the goal of this movie, and for the most part, like I said, the movie works and I liked it. I was just left wanting more though. I didn't get that feeling with Y Tu Mama Tambien which I think is a very good movie.
And you are right loco, Children of Men is a superb piece of cinema (not only with layers and style, but a great story to boot).
