Question about ending *Spoliers*
My apologies if this topic has been covered.
Why was Clint Eastwood's character not charged with Murder. Correct me if I'm wrong, but assisted suicides are still illegal in parts of North America.
We don't know the answer to that. In fact, we're not shown anything of what happened to Frankie as the last scene of the movie has him eating lemon meringue pie in the diner where he and Maggie had once stopped at. There's lots of unanswered questions like that. For instance, why was Frankie's real daughter so mad at him that she wouldn't even read his letters? We're never told that either. It's all subjective. I guess it's just left to the mind of the viewer to figure out.

I would imagine Frankie was estranged from his daughter because he helped her Mother / His wife die as well. If I remember correctly she was terminally ill. That's what I took away from it.
