Woah... Britain hates Mel? Since when?

I disagree with lots of the summary. I haven't seen the film, i disagree with its statements on Britain..

It IS a secret that Britain hates Mel Gibson... I know no-one that hates him.. I know I respect him, i like all the LT films, I love the Patriot and Braveheart, and the 50's detective style film.

The christians I know obviously quite liked the Passion, I never saw it myself but I heard of no bad reviews from any of my british non christian friends..
I never heard he was anti-anything (and since when did making a christian film make someone a christian fanatic?

What evidence did the film give for our anti-mel'ness, and his anti-brit ness?

Its possible the film was Meant to be tabloid-like.. wait, as I read again.. the "anti-mel Era"??
Its possible the film was advertising to stir up British tension and make them have a reflex reaction to see the film.. if what you say is true..

Either way, I think he's a damn good actor

I have no idea what the Brits think of him in general, but I bet he's a hero in Scotland.

"I have no idea what the Brits think of him in general, but I bet he's a hero in Scotland."

Mel is a hero amongst xenophobic, anti-English, morons (remarkably similar to himself) who live in a twilight world of bastardized history bordering on downright mythology. To those of us Scots who take our nations history seriously we will never forgive Mel for his tacky piece of non-history masquerading as historical film. In fact it is a complete laughing stock amongst Scottish historians and others who are interested in their country's history.

As for the rest of the output from this 3rd rate charlatan: cheap and nasty nonsense. His crudely anti-Semitic 'Passion of the Christ' is in a different hemisphere from Martin Scorsese thoughtful and beautiful 'The Last Temptation of Christ.' However it is to be expected when we realise Scorsese is from that thoughtful branch of Catholicism in comparison to Gibson and his fathers’ position in the homophobic, anti-Semitic, pro Nazi branch of Catholicism that would make scumbags of Joseph Ratzinger proportions blush.

It is silly to say Britain hates Mel; however it would be accurate to say that anyone in the world who isn’t a moron that enjoys cheap, huckster like pieces of film that Mel excels in does indeed hate him.

The comment was greatly inaccurate. "Braveheart" certainly was not a flop in the UK, it was the fifth biggest ticketseller in the UK in 1995. The "Lethal Weapon" films were very popular in the UK, particularly Part-3. "The Patriot" had a lackluster Box-Office performance compared to it's US gross, but it would be difficult to say it had flopped.

Still, this title cracks me up.
