So it took Dreyman 7 years to figure out that Wiesler helped him. And he decides to let him wait another 2 years so he can write his book for dramatic effect. All the while Wiesler is working for probably poor wages in his already pretty sad life while Dreyman must be rich. What a douche!
shareYour comment makes no sense. Dreyman writing his book does not change Weisler's status, so why does it bother you that it took 2 years? Dreyman thanked Weisler the way he knew that Weisler would want to be thanked. He was not a douche at all.

He did search for him and in fact found him, but concluded based on observation that he wouldn't want to be thanked or bothered. Later he wrote and a book and dedicated it to him. And Weisler came across the book and saw the dedication. A heartbreakingly great way to end the movie.

Indeed! One of the best ends of all movies, always hard (if not impossible) to keep dry eyes watching the end of this movie....

You should have a real deep thought what Wiesler did.... for approx 20 yrs!
Even if you have zero knowledge what everyday life in DDR meant it's clearly shown in first few minutes. Wiesler was one of worst. HE training new recruits even dirty tricks of psychology torture.
They threw innocent ppl in jail for years, ruined careers of family e.g. just for not praising Socialism and staying submissive to a small Socialist Clique benefitting!
That art couple gave him for the first time in life an escapism in his grey, dull life! Usually this happens at the age of 8-12 with music, foremost later movies, books, theater! World Art was banned in DDR! It was not portrayed full front on like Black Swan but you get the drift on a 1.5 million budget!
Weasel Wiesler only belonged in their own Stasi Jail holes! Not to be compared with G7 luxury jails including Gyms, Courts, TVs, PlayStations, Libraries & Co.!
For Wiesler to gain a minimum of sympathy he shall have died in a scenario saving the Actress, who was the biggest victim!
He didn't even deserve that dedication. It was most stupid scene ruining movie Dreyman meeting positively Former Culture Minister just to finally get he was observed for years prior the 2 raids! Like WTF! Hence his adored Actress Girlfriend plus Mentor Friend committing suicide due to these Socialist Career Assholes!
If Dreyman didn't even got that after years, impossible he knew the real circumstances/intentions of the ppl surveilling him. It could only be hourly and they were not present when certain sentences got exchanged. Fallen asleep more than once in this dull concentrating.
Just despise on a personal level at his (new) Supervisor to not even get the next unjustified promotion. Nothing is known to Dreyman why he wasn't fully exposed. It could have been just lucky circumstances zero to do with him actually. But he clearly knows these guys robbed him plus the world of his 2 most precious people in life. So the dedication stinks ass. 🦨
