Better or worse than The Eye

I think that The Eye had better plot and moments than 2, it's almost like you're begging for some sleeping pills while watching The Eye 2. Sure it had it's moments, but very few, but I think it depends on your own taste for movies. What do you guys think about this movie?

WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT? - I asked myself after watching that movie. I really liked the first movie THE EYE, but the sequel is disappointing! I knew it before that it can´t be so good as The Eye, but I wanted to watch it because I ´ve seen the first one and what else can you do, when you are bored and have nothing else to do....
Actually, it started good in the beginning but after 10 minutes I thought that there was absolute no need for this movie. It´s a waste of time and it wasn´t creepy - not even for a second. I think THE EYE was almost brilliant and THE EYE 2 sucks - but as you said Sly, everyone has his own taste.

Let's just say, i was very cynical over the whole idea of a sequel to a film that you couldn't follow.

*Spoiler of The Eye 1*

As the first one ended, and the heroine ended up blind, how can you follow with that? But after reading through the plot summary and actually watching it, i am very impressed.

I can't understand the people who don't like this film, if you liked the original or films like Ringu and Ju-On, why shouldn't you like this? The only thing i can think of if you lot who dislike it are not into Psychological horror films.

I find it is undoubtedly better than The Eye, alot less cheesy, more ghost scenes and a brilliant idea of the afterlife.

All i can do is congratulate the Pang brothers for it.

They surpassed my expectations.

The Eye 2 was a spin off.
Really nothing like the 1st so thats why i thought it sorta sucked.
But.........

The eye2 had a more original story then the eye and it was somewhat interesting and a boring horror movie in my opinion 7/10

reply

How can that make it suck just because it had nothing to do with the first?

Do you really think you would enjoy a film where it follows on from someone blind who gets her vision back for the second time? Sorry, but i think that they did the film justice by not making it sleazy.

reply

Well I didn't like the first one 'cause I watched The Sixth Sense so I can't help but compare the two movies. Sixth Sense was just brilliant to me, but the Eye 2 sucked. Iw atched the first 15min of it and I thought "What the hell is going on?!?" It never explained y she saw the ghosts after she tried to committ suicide and does she still see ghosts after she gave birth? I don't like how they use reincarnation in this story. I don't reccommend pregnant women to watch this film....lol. It's not real, but some might imagine it happening while going through labor...lol. I thought the Eye was better in story.

reply

i think that she HAS to suffer for her action of commiting suicide... in a way... that's why she suddenly see these things without her realising it...

reply

I just noticed that The Eye 2 was written by different writers than the original... that might be the reason why it wasn't as good.

A lot of it has to do with character selection, I think... the first movie, I didn't know anybody, but they were really good raw talents. By the second movie, they have recognizable faces (bigger budget, I presume). I never liked Hsu Chi, and her acting like a spoiled brat in the beginning ruined any sympathy I had for her. The male character is a two timing SOB, and I can't imagine all of the stuff happening just because one person decided to be a two timing SOB. The whole movie was totally blown out of proportion. Also, in the first movie, Mun resolved everything by being sympathetic to the ghost... not being vindictive. After hearing the story and realizing what a horrible cheating bastard the ex was, she should sympathize with the dead wife and try to at least talk to her or something. Not that I wish gory things to happen to self absorbed conceited individual, but it is difficult for me to develop any type of emotion outside apathy for her.

I didn't mind the Chinese Buddhist religion references because I grew up knowing the reincarnation thing anyway... perhaps that's another reason why I wasn't scared. Before I explained the concept to my boyfriend (I explained it to him before the monk did in the movie,) he genuinely thought the ghost was going to kill the baby in the elevator as well. This movie should have been titled differently and categorized under "drama" instead of "horror" and it would have been better accepted. All in my humble opinion.

Who the heck is Hsu Chi ??????

I'm guessing he means Shu Qi

I personally liked The Eye 2 better.Shu Qi was a better actress than Angelica Lee Sin Jie, which made Eye 2 more amusing for me.I loved both movies, Eye had its famous scenes as well as The Eye 2.Eye 2 wasn't as scary I have to admit, and pretty unrealistic *SPOILER*
how her and her baby suvived those falls.
I guess I like Eye 2 better because of Shu Qi..

reply

Funny I thought Angelica's acting was superior.

I have to say that the eye two was a big let down for me, my brother and my friend who bought it. The eye was excellent and was scary, reminded me alot of Japanese horror which is the scaryest horror ever.
However this film simple did not realy go anywhere, and the suposed twist at the end we already knew halfway trought the film. And the lead actress people have been raving about for being "atractive" I dont get, she definatly no Maggie Q!
Anyway, you can probaly tell that I realy didn't like this film but hey dosent me nobody else can :)

reply

I personally think this film was much better than the first one...it was more psychological...and had more jumpy bits. This is actually one of my favourite films!
I watched it with my friend at 2 am...and then we went out to the park..it was misty...and we scared ourselves witless when we started pretending that the ghost girl person was gonna come out of the mist and kill us.
Ahaha >.< she's a very immature 17 year old and i'm a kinda immature 14 year old :P.

I don't understand why they had to use the title The Eye 2 for this film as the two films are completely different. If somebody wanted a follow-on from the first movie then they would have been disappointed. But that doesn't mean that this a bad film, just different. Both in story and style. The first was slow and methodical whilst this one was faster paced and played more for shocks.

I cant believe the amount of people claiming the eye 2 to be inferior to the eye. The eye 2 was soo much better on every possible level and those of you who claim the eye 2 to be boring must have the attention span of a fly in which case watch dumb american movies instead.

reply

just because some don't like the sequel doesn;t mean you can make an accusation like

"those of you who claim the eye 2 to be boring must have the attention span of a fly in which case watch dumb american movies instead".

how would you feel when people reacted like you did just now to films that you like/love ???

reply

This movie was nothing special at all and a big disappointment.

Best part of the movie for me was the Thai cab driver at the start of the movie when Qu saw her first ghost and runs from the cab, and he replied "Alai Wa" which in Thai basically means "What the *beep*

reply

I agree, much better. The eye was good, but how many movies can they make that rip off Koji Suzuki? The Pang brothers' direction is what truly made The Eye. Part 2, while only a sequel in name, has a compelling original story... A psychological thriller/horror movie, that in the end, isn't a horror movie at all. The "surprise ending" is that you, as the viewer, learn that you weren't watching a horror movie, rather a unique tale of reincarnation. I put The Eye 2 right along side of A Tale of Two Sisters as one of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time, and one of the best in Asian cinema.

this movie was okay; i liked it. on the other hand, i absolutely LOVED the first one! i think this one couldn't measure up to the 1st one, but it was pretty good, just the same.

reply

I agree with you, the first one has a much better plot, and although it was not either a great movie for me, I did not get bored while watching it, but with this one I did sometimes. Anyway I do not think second one is very bad movie, as sometimes it is not too bad.

reply

I liked the first one better. However having said that this movie shouldn't have been called the Eye 2 because the plot and story was completly drifferent. I really liked the story but not the title but i can get over that. Also would have like to see Angelica Yee back as Mun from the first.

reply

Sure, the first one wasn't 'original' but really this one wasn't either. In scope of direction, score, script, pacing, character development and etc. The Eye is far superior.

For starters: I found myself laughing, jumping and crying in The Eye.

:SPOILERS For The EYE:::

I jumped when the first ghost appeared in the hall and the one in the elevator.
I laughed at some of the jokes played between the relationship between the mother, sister and later on later on the shrink.
I cried when the girl from the hospital died and the speech she gave just made it all worth it of her saying "Life is so beautiful" right before she was leaving it.

The violin scene had wonderful art direction. And was very intense.

Really I enjoyed the Buddhist story in Eye 2 but that's about really all it had going for it. The Eye was just a much better story, whereas this was not as good.

Personally, I might like The Eye better bc I'm an american and we value life as 'once it is gone it is gone' or the things we have; or many ppl in our culture do, whereas Chinese ppl are more Buddhist and prob. can connect with 2 more. I just think on a scale of all of the elements a great movie make up, The Eye is far superior.

I did not jump, laugh or cry once in The Eye 2. Wait. I did laugh when that one girl got hit by the train bc it looked so fake as her body flopped down.
