True Life situation

Just watched this movie on cable and thought it was kinda cute. I'm surprised at how much I liked it. I feel Eddie Griffin is too hit/miss as a comedian. When he's on he's way on. When he's off he's way off. This movie reminded me of an actual situation that happened to comic book writer/television writer Dwayne McDuffie. He was starting to make a big name for himself as a writer and was honored by an Irish American literary society. He got the notice that he would receive an award and have a dinner in his honor. After thinking about it for a few days, McDuffie said what the hell and decided to go get his award. What a shock it was when a 6' 250lbs. black man showed up to the awards dinner? Apparantly he got his award and dinner but the literary society vowed to do much better research in the future. McDuffie told this story at a comic convention about 10 years ago.
