A little after the waterfalls you push a giant block into a pit, you use this to get the girl up and out, you climb a ladder to a chapel or something, once inside you climb another ladder, handswing across some pipes in the cieling and lower a switch that starts the machinery.
The gear or whatever it is bobs up and down, you climb down a ladder that only reaches half way, run over to it.
And for me thats where a great game ends.

Ok waterfalls, that's the room where you walk across a bridge and there's a waterfall at one end of the room right? And you enter the doorway opposite the bridge and there's a room with a small garden and an elevator? That right?
I'm curious, is this the European version of the game?

Its a little ahead of this part, in some versions you are able to skip the part I`m stuck on for the cieling bar is not split and your able to swing all the way across to the high balcony.

Ok, I'm starting to have an idea.
It's after that area where you see the water and you can't go any further on a pipe right? So you just go on further and take a small shaft down?
Then you see a gap where a little bridge would be and there's a platform that looks like it could be pushed? Am I close?

I can help you out with this problem Ric.
You are playing the European version of ICO which differs slightly to the NTSC version & this problem had me stumped for a while too, but its pretty simple really. It all about timing.
Right.....
You said you had the machinery working right ( the log shooting out of the ground ) stand on the log, facing the machinery. When the log drops a little before it shoots up, press jump ( no direction, just jump ) & the log shoots you high enough to grab onto the ledge above you. If i remember right, the timing is press jump as the log dips down.
It may take you a while but thats how to do it.
