An Ico Movie?

Does anybody think that would be a good idea?

no there's no storyline to convert into a movie
it would be a visually stunning picture, yes, but what's the storyline? a boy with horns walks through a castle dragging a girl about solving puzzles?
yeah right

It would make a fantastic film, but I pray it goes unnoticed. There are few (if any) directors worthy of converting the sheer magnificance of this game. I actually can't think of anyone living who could pull it off.

Obviously, a movie version would be a bit fleshed out in detail. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what would have to be done in order to make this story into a good narrative for a movie, but it's not an idea that couldn't work. I think Ico would have to learn a bit more about the castle he's in, so as to appeal to an audience watching it. But the allure is there, no doubt about it.

But I don't want it made if someone wants to simply make "a video game movie." The reason so many (most) of them suck is because that's what's done. Instead of thinking about how best to make a movie from game's setting or story, they try to evoke the game within the movie instead. Or worse, they simply make it a farce or a parody (e.g. Street Fighter).

Regardless, I doubt the creators of the game would release the rights to make a film based on it, so this conversation is somewhat moot as it is. Also, there really is no NEED to do this. The game alone is enough. If most people never hear of Ico, it's their loss for writing off video games as entertainment.

I wouldn't make him solving puzzles, he would rather be trying to get out from all the shadows.

One way to do it is to enforce the concept of lonliness and isolation. Ico and Yorda are the only two people in the castle, filled with spirits.

The original box art basically set up that theme. The way to do it is have more lengthy and detailed explaining of how Ico was captured. After he meets Yorda, it would probably need to show alot more perilous trips to the gates, then at least retain the puzzle for one of the Towers, while the other would be centric to a nearly impossible fight as Ico tries to activate light beacon while also keeping Yorda safe from being taken.

Another thing would be to maybe have Yorda do unarrated flashbacks that could hint at her mother's dark history.

The one thing I think we're worried about is how long would it be, it wouldn't be able to work as 2 hours film, of course not, but more like 90 min feature.

Somehow though, I don't quite know if Ico will ever make it to film, but I could be wrong.

I just finished playing this...amazing experience.
I am in awe.
ICO is so much more than just a 'video game'.

About 20 minutes in; I thought that this would make an amazing film.
I can already see the trailer in my mind.
I can hear its music.

I could write a screenplay for this easily.

Granted, it would be essentially a dialogue-less film, but that's cool with me.
Let the actors merely visually emote.

You just have to maintain that solitary sense of despair, loneliness and hope/love.

Ico's determination.
Yorda's quiet melancholy.
The smoke-demons in pursuit.

I'm getting chills.

I want to be a movie director when i grow up and one of the movies that i want to make is in fact, an ICO movie.

A thing i would want to show is the people taking ICo from his house. One thing that i would want to do is have some of the puzzles in there, but have the shadows more involved in interrupting the puzzle solving. For example, i always had a visiob of the windmill puzzle, having a shadow creature on top of the windmill and jumping off in slow motion and ICO taking his stick and have it go through the shadow's head. i would do a lot of slow to fast motions on the fights (like 300 movie)

I would also have more of the Queen in the movie.

One thing that i would want to do is show off the atmosphere. Cuz that for me, is true beauty that is in the video game. The beautifully detailed environments and everything is just so awe inspiring for me.

I seriosuly think this could work as a film.

Anakin Skywalker: Is it possible to learn this power?
Supreme Chancellor: Not from a Jedi.

would be a brilliant film, great set pieces, full of breathtaking visuals, imaginative worlds and creatures and a boy trying to save a ghost it just sounds like the sort of thing anime genius's dream of.

NO. NO. A THOUSAND TIMES, NO. Imagine if a beautiful thing like Ico were to be picked up by, say, UWE BOLL. You should be stricken from history for even giving something like this more than a nanosecond of consideration!

it doesn't matter what director tried it, the fact is the only person who could make an ICO movie is Fumito Ueda. and i can damn near guarantee that won't happen, he has already said he doesn't like going backwards. when he's finished a game, he likes to move on to the next thing. and if any other director tried, they would screw it up.

and a movie should not be made. the point of the stories of ICO and Shadow are to be minimilistic. leaving their interpretation to the player. if a movie was made that was anything other than what was seen in the game, it would take away from that.
