Cameron's accent

It seems to me she speaks with a southern accent in the movie. Is it any good? based on the trailer I can't really tell. What do you guys think? I believe she had a similar accent in another movie, The Box

I live in Texas. Her accent sucks.

My girlfriend is Chinese and neither of us have ever been to Texas. Even she noticed straight away how much Cameron Diaz's accent sucked.

reply

She has the absolutely worst Texas drawl I've ever heard. They could at least have gotten a better actress. She's just horrible and her bad cosmetic surgery makes her look like the Joker.

She has admitted to getting a nose job (she says because her nose has been broken too many times). Whether or not she's had anything else done is anyone's guess, but she definitely has had *some* plastic surgery.

reply

Yeah the surgery is starting to show in a bit of a 'Meg Ryan' way...

I am a New Yorker but I recognize a horrible Texas accent and it was incredibly horrible. Which I don't get was it deliberately meant to be bad or was she simply unable to pull it off?

the worst things about this movie is Cameron Diaz and her horrible accent.

i'm not Texan or even American, but i've heard most of perfect Texan accents and Cameron's is not one of them...

It didn't help that almost all her dialogue consisted of homey slogans and expressions. Not for a moment could I see her as a genuine human being. I suspect the Coens wrote this screenplay about 25 years ago, sold it for five dollars where it remained in a producer's bottom drawer until recently when some top talent were suckered in on the Coen's track record and from there the film got green lit. Only Alan Rickman came out looking good and that I suspect was mostly by playing himself.

Yeah, I grew up in Texas, and she had a pretty bad accent

There is no doubt that he accent has been a hotly debated subject, but all we can suggest is that you watch and judge for yourself! We have a few people at our company who were either born or grew up in Texas, and they found the accent to be pretty spot on. One of the movie's producers, Brett Hedblom, grew up in Texas for 20 years, and swears many of his relatives in East Texas sound exactly like PJ Puznowski. We even had Brett Tyne, who has worked with the Coen Brothers in the past, onboard as Cameron's vocal coach to ensure it was as accurate as possible. All we can think is that maybe people's preconceived notions about Cameron and the way she SHOULD sound cloud their judgement. But to each their own, all we ask is that you watch and judge on your own! :)
