I think that Gretchen's performance (regardless of whether she completely captured the character) was wonderful! She brought a vitality that only she could bring to such a project. She was PERFECTLY cast in this picture. Thanks to Gretchen Mol for appearing in this film.

Sorry, I disagree. I thought her performance was flat and amateurish. I didn't understand what her motivation was and she made Bette seem simple-minded.

Not only was she robbed an Oscar nod. She should have won the damn award to boot! She was pitch perfect and owned the character. Not to mention how f'ing erotic and sexual she was and brought such humanity to the real person.

She can only play what was in the script and she did it perfectly!

Mol was NOT good that character had no depth and no realism unless Bettie Page was borderline retarded in real life then she nailed it.

But Mol is married to the producer of this film, so here we are

Agreed. Gretchen Mol was perfect for the role. She captures the innocent, winsome spirit of Bettie Page brilliantly. Gretchen Mol is very underrated as an actress. She is also drop dead gorgeous as was Bettie Page.
