I thought it was a self-aware joke until...

The "rape scene" (don't know if it can even be called that). It was at this point that I realized that Becker wasn't just purposefully making his movie awful, but was legitimately untalented. Why in the world would he fill his movie with unrealistic monster violence and then throw in a very real, totally un-earned sexual assault? What was the point? Just because rape is film taboo doesn't mean you get to use it anytime you want. What's even more insulting is that the whole rape is six seconds long or less. It was like Becker wanted the clout of filming a rape sequence but didn't actually have the talent or patience to pull one off.

This movie is wayyyyy too stupid for that to be part of the story. It made me pretty mad, honestly. Then the rest of the movie continued and I laughed at it. Still, awful decision on the writer/director's part.
