any version with visible mics in it not final release version

Anyone who has seen mics in the film saw a beta version of it not the final. The final picture is pristine and and shows the film to full effect.

You know... I came here ready to vent & fuss but I've changed my mind a bit. The version I saw only had one scene toward the end that had the boom mic in it. I'm going along thinking, "This is a GREAT movie!" but then I fixated on the mic scene. It even irritated me that the problem wasn't addressed in the commentary. I was mad that an entire movie experience had been ruined in one swift moment. Blahblahblah, etc etc. Long story, short... I'm glad to see it wasn't carelessness on the director & editor's parts. The movie has been redeemed & my once-ruffled feathers are smooth again. I like the whole line of movies that companies have been putting out about the serial killers, but "Starkweather" ranks as probably one of my favorites of the bunch. At least in the top 3, competing only with "Dahmer" and "Bundy".

Thanks much for your comments.

Yes it is extremely frustrating to have visible mics when we really put a lot of care and attention into the film.

Please try to get hold of the proper version.

Anyway glad you liked the film notwithstanding.

I lost count of the number of times I caught mic boom in the shot. I thought it was a great movie too, but yeah, seeing the boom in the shot just breaks up the magic of movies. I saw it repeatedly from the start to the end, and it occured predominantly during indoor non-closeup scenes. I'm not even talking about just minor glimpses, but ones that were so bad, it was close to ruining the movie for me because of the distraction it causes.

Well, it was enough to make me think what kind of pro's were in charge on this film?? I mean, SOMEONE should have caught this. You have the director, you have the editor and there is actually a person on the payroll whose job it is to watch for cotinuity issues. Mic booms aren't there job, but being as they are supposed to watch for every detail of a scene from one to the next. Really, this was just BAD. Real bad.

Not taking anything away from the script, the actors or cinemtography beyond these issues though. I liked the movie.

Please advise whee you saw this version.

The correct release version has one small shadow of a mike way towards the end.

Ther version you saw is teh wrong one which somehow escaped out.

If you rent the Velocity version you will see it is not true.\

Where did you see this VOD?

Thanks mb

Boom mics all over the place.I rented this flick hoping to have a blast.I wanted to blow up the tele while watching it.It seemed so amateur..bad editing...bad script...bad acting...plain bad.How did somebody make this movie. That too in this year?I could have made a better movie even if I were 2 yrs old.sad.

First of, I haven't seen this movie, but I know the story and I saw 2 movies based on it.
Both were allright, but not very chilling, so I hope when I watch this movie, it is chilling and it won't be interrupted by a mic. And the fact that so many people did see it with a bunge of those mics, isn't that the fault of the producers themselves? If you make a movie, make sure it's not being released before it's even finished.

I don't neccessarily believe that crap anyway. I just think that because of the bad reviews 'they' re-edited the movie and polished it up a bit. Well, both theories are possible, but in both cases, it's the responceability of the 'makers' of this movie!

The fault was one hundred percent due to the lab, POST GROUP, and the distribution company, THINKFILM.

POST GROUP, whose only job it was to duplicate and send out the film to Thinkfilm, sent out instead an unfinished, un color-corrected, un-framed version. I highly recommend everyone in the film industry to stay away from POST GROUP as they are incompetant to the nth degree. I can say that without it being slanderous, because it is true!!

The error was not discovered until after THINKFILM had sent out this version to all the video store buyers to see if they wanted to stock the film.

Then THINKFILM compounded the error by, even though they had the correct version already, sending out the same bad version to DIRECT TV for their PPV release.

Now, finally, they say they have destroyed the bad version of the film. I hope it is actually true this time.

So that is the real story.

I hope you enjoy the film.

In one shot not only could you see the boom mike, but pretty much the whole boom. It stayed on the screen for at least five minutes. I have never seen anything like it, to be honest with you.

Just watched a preview edition downunder and can report no mics in evidence :)

Quite chilling performances from the leads, and the person doing the lead in review needs to watch more movies. One of the effects of this movie is showing that after the initial murder Starkweather had no issue with repeating it. He was "a natural born killer".

Well, I imagine at some point this was just too much to ignore, and they re-edited the film. ...but I ASSURE you, the version I just watched on ON-DEMAND (cable pay per view) was LITTERED with shots of the boom sneaking in to the scenes.

reply

This was the fault of the distributor who again, for the second time, delivered the version (which should have been destroyed) to someone who in this case amazimgly was ON DEMAND.

ON-DEMAND now have the correct version which is exactly the same edit.

Now they have finally destroyed the wrong version at least I hope so; I might send someone to their Toronto lab to be sure.

Sorry for these constant *beep* which are all the fault of the lab except this last one which was more the distributor.

Well, you have all the right answers, but that's all mute.
A lot of people already saw the movie, incl. the mics and the ones that didn't, won't take that risk as soon as they normally would have watched the movie.
So you loose anyway and eventhough it's the distributor fault, they will hold it against the maker, not some compagny.

reply

absolutely of course you are right.

But is bad luck to be blamed like this forever, because I and especially the director and editor took extraordinary care to make a good film.

But I still feel blessed because the film in the end I think is ok, despite the bad release version being exposed to the world so widely.

reply

You're right, it shouldn't. But don't be suprised if they do, that's all I'm saying....

But you should feel, what you are feeling, you should be proud of your accomplishment with this movie. Not a lot of people can say they made movies, even if it isn't a big boxoffice movie.
I wish you all the luck you need.
By the way, a lot of people do download your movie, I have come across that movie several times.
Somehow that must make you feel good, but also bad because now they will not go to the cinema or DVD (rental)shop.
