Where is this supposed to take place

Did anyone get any clues as to where this film was set? Can't be Las Vegas, as the geography didn't match. Northern Nevada? Atlantic City?

reply

Atlantic City? and ive never been there and figured it out.

reply

Way to go genius, except you're wrong. The pier and waves indicate that it is possibly Atlantic City, but none of the places that it showed throughout the rest of the movie even remotely resembled Atlantic City (i.e. it wasn't a complete *beep* hole like the real Atlantic City is).

I do not think it was Seattle either, as there are no casinos in Seattle (everyone crosses Puget Sound to go to the Indian Casinos in that part of the state).

I couldn't really get a good picture on where it was supposed to be, but I thought that it might possibly be L.A.: casinos, piers closeby, some impoverished areas and some affluent ones. That is the best I can come up with

reply

Looked like Seattle to me... there was a model of that tower thing they have in one scene.

reply

it was primarily filmed in and around LA, but im pretty sure its supposed to be atlantic city.

reply

Biloxi, Mississippi

reply

I think the vagueness of the location was quite intentional because the story is not restricted to an particular location (38 states have casinos). The unknown location makes the story more universal. I saw nothing that was distinctly associated with any location except for the peers at the beginning and end which implies fairly high tides.

It looked like Seattle to me too, I saw the Spaceneedle on the table too.I might add that they did mention Starbucks which has it roots in Seattle

How about the home city of Snow's basketball team? I don't remember the name of the college, but it seemed that Forrester was attending home games.

I'm in Las Vegas and it's wasn't filmed here. There is more than one story revolving around gambling addiction and it doesn't have to be in the same place.

Seattle...
the Space Needle is shown in a couple shots...

I thought it was suppose to take place in atlantic city since nick cannon's character plays for St. Francis, and that's in NY.

I believe it was intentionally left ambiguous. Of course its a Casino town near the water somewhere. Obviously. First scene, a guy's body's floating around near pilings with ocean-seaweed & barnacles on them. So we know its not a Casino near a Lake or River. But its near the Ocean. West Coast or East Coast?

Well with the College they refer to...it must be on the East Coast. At the time the movie was made, Philly's Casino wasn't opened yet. And there are no Casino's in Frantic City, even closely resembling the one in the movie. So we have to believe its just a made-up fictional "Casino Town" for this story.

Its movie about the pitfalls of gambling addiction. Looking at it from everyone involved in it's perspective. And how it affects & destroys their lives & their relationships, in the worst possible ways. Up to & including murdering people. A lesson for "Always Bet With Your Head, & Not Over It", as they say.

Just a couple of my observations tonight, being the 1st time I saw this flick. From an old "ex" (as in "retired") A.C. Casino, Eye-In-The-Sky shift mgr. I realize your question was asked & answered a few years back. So I'm sorry its taken this long to see the movie, and reply. Better late than never I guess. I watched it primarily tonight, because of all the cool actors in it. Then found myself really enjoying it. Even though it was on very late...I didn't nod out like I usually do this time of night.(or early AM)Prompting me to come in here to see what others thought of it too.
