I am not really atheist or agnostic in the sense i just believe it is unlikely that god is real and i dont believe in demons or ghosts or anything like that. That being said, the reason i was scared by it is bc as i watched it i put myself in emilys shoes and even all the other characters shoes. Imagining if that were happening to me or seeing it happen in front of me, it wouldnt make me believe that demons were real, but it would still be terrifying to witness someone suffer and go through that in front of your eyes. Maybe it is just me being disturbed by violence and pain but i feel that even more if i was emily rose, i wouldnt know that it wasnt real or whatever bc it was happening to me and i couldnt explain it. Even if i was rational enough to say well i am obviously mentally ill and demons arent real, what am i supposed to feel when i experience demons in my head and feeling forces contort my body and cause me to inflict violence on myself? So that's just my view on it so maybe it would be interesting for you. Thanks!

The only thing that scared me about this movie was that people actually believe this bullcrap in real life.

What, arklier said. Also, the movie version was kind of off kilter. They couldn't seem to decide if there were demons or if it was medical negligence. I think it would have been a much better movie if the lawyer would have gone after the doctors that treated her. In the movie it was obvious that Emily Rose was very far gone before the priest even showed up. In real life that wasn't the case, but I digress.

Not really sure what being atheist or agnostic has to do with it. It's a movie. Fiction. When it comes to most movies you have to suspend disbelief at some level. I'm atheist, but I found this movie to be creepy. You don't have to believe in god and the devil to find something like this scary. I also find some ghost movies scary and I don't believe in ghosts. I can see people not finding this scary if they overthink it and analyze it to death just because it doesn't fall in line with their belief system, but really, what fun is that when you're just trying to be entertained? Releax a bit and enjoy it for what it is.

Not really, in fact, I rather enjoyed the two approaches of the trial that were generally neutral to the whole case (and rarely seen in a movie). Sure, at the end Hollywood had to make it more commercial and sensationalist and it leans a bit more to the religious aspect of it, but overall, it is a solid film.

I see this film from the point of view of the prosecution, and I am generally satisfied with the way they explain the whole thing, the rest I interpret it as the priest getting on his lawyer's head and she being the subject and victim of the whole superstition and suggestiveness given the nature of the case.

The only scene that gave me the creeps was when her friend wakes up and sees Emily in that weird rigid position on the floor staring directly at him, if that was happen to me, I would be very freaked out at the moment.

Other than that, the trial and the case were very well explained and handled.

It is disappointing though, that the priest wasn't punished more harshly, a man like that is a danger to society and represents a figure of authority towards ignorant people, which in this case had as a result a major tragedy.

But then again, she was supposed to be 19 years old, it would be thought that she was old enough to be able to separate reality from fiction, and her own superstitions and ignorance (even when they were the subject of her life's education) were the things that led her into a premature certain death, so it is sad to say, but part of it was her own fault as well.

The GREATEST ally and BEST friend of christianity throughout history is Satan

Actually i don't believe in any god in the literal sense used today. I don't see any evidence or reason to do so. However i think these kinds of movies are actually more scary considering against all the odds it being true. Like the advocate, she didn't believe at first, but after experiencing certain things she began to doubt.

What is an agnostic

reply

An agnostic neither rejects nor accepts the reality of The Lord God. An agnostic keeps an open mind, and is receptive to new information, one way or the other.

I'm a reluctant atheist....

I dont find any movies about ghosts or demons scary and the reason is Ghosts or demons are the answer to my biggest fear.....

I am certain that the moment we die, we enter eternal nothingness and to me that is the most horrifying thing imaginable...

I simply could never be afraid of a ghost, demon or even satan himself because If I saw one or even if they haunted me, for me It would Not be scary, Instead it would be confirmation and the answer to my greatest and most horrific fear....

so when I watch Movies about ghosts and demons, I cant fear them because A. I am certain they cant possibly exist and B. It doesnt matter how "scary" the situation is, To me I would be happy and grateful to be in that exact "scary" situation because It would instantly confirmation there is "something' after death....

I enjoy very much watching Ghost and demons movies though....

but I must admit This movie did make me feel different....

I wasnt scared, But sad...

The movie does a very good job of making you feel sorry for emily, she truly looks absolutely haunted and horrified

Jennifer Carpenter is excellent in the role and again really makes you feel for her....

The director deserves a ton of credit.
