Incredible performance from Jennifer Carpenter.

She really blew me away when I seen it at the show,
I probably watch it every year,
and I still love her performance.
Meek and gentle all the way to evil and aggressive.
Awesome facial expressions.
Wicked screams from her too!

The camera angles during the naming of the six,
is about the only part I really don't like.
But that's not her fault.

I liked her in Quarantine too, ha!

I know I am probably in the minority here, but an award should have went her way for that performance. I prefer that over Linda Blair's Regan any day.

reply

I wouldn't go that far. Linda was beyond amazing (especially that knowing that she was so young and so was her character but still gave a solid performance) but Jennifer was also very good and deserved at least a Golden globe nomination.

reply

Omg i am in heavy agreement especially because i saw her first in white chicks haha

They probably liked her frenzied performance in the change scene in White Chicks ("Tina the talking tummy").

I agree I think she was fantastic. I wished she was nominated for an oscar. Completely frightening.

reply

I agree. Jennifer is a great performer/entertainer. And hands down better than Linda Blair. I'm sorry but despite her controversial Oscar nomination. The reason behind that controversy is that and older voice actress did all of Blairs possessed lines. Meaning she did not speak like that at all. So therefore she never deserved that nomination. On the other hand Jennifer Carpenter was robbed!

There was a lot of contortion and she was pretty good at it. A lot of us would sprain something trying that.

I can’t believe Carpenter’s career didn’t take off after the amazing performance she gave. Apparently the director was prepared to use a dummy and lots of SFX during the possession scenes, but Carpenter was able to contort herself into much scarier positions and do much of the work without the use of effects. I was very, very impressed with her performance; a lesser actor would have ruined the entire movie and could’ve made it low-budget and cheesy, but the believability of Emily is exactly what made the movie so effective. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t get great reviews, and for whatever reason, people tend to not take horror movies seriously as a genre. I would’ve loved to see this actress in other films and think her performance here deserves a lot more praise, as does the movie as a whole.

Talented actress.
