White powder on the executed Jews?

What was that stuff? At first I thought it was snow or heavy frost, but the surrounding fields have green grass, leaves and flowers. Is it a Jewish custom to sprinkle lime ash or similar on the deceased? Was it gunpowder? Seems like an awful lot for the amount of bullets used. Couldn't figure it out.

Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

That might have supposed to have been quicklime.

Some might argue that the guy did not appear to be in distress, but from the above web site: "contact with skin can cause reactions that range from mild irritation to full scale burning"
So perhaps he was supposed to be a "mild" case? I wouldn't know, not being a quicklime expert. That, or just a little something in the long tradition of movies scripts that don't really care to be faithful to science.

I guess you could say that he didn't appear 'in distress' about the huge bullet wound across his head either (the one that he bears the scar from as an old man), so that makes sense. No doubt his body was in shock from the physical and emotional trauma so he couldn't feel anything besides numb.

Seems reasonable.
