working on this film

I had the pleasure of being one off the zombies on this film, and I have to say it was a great time working for these people. The Make-up specialist was fantastic! The Director was one of the best to work for.

There should be a copy at your local Blockbuster. There was one at mine.

reply

Dlilsmile, I got my copy from Ebay. I don't normally go for horror movies at all, but I was best friends with the writers, John & Matt Yuan, in high school (John was my prom date, and Matt was my twin sister's), so I wanted to see their work. I'll probably never watch it again, but I told them it was the best zombie movie I've ever seen.

reply

They should have some pre-viewed copies at Blockbuster for only like 12/10 dollars. That's how I got mine.

reply

Also, if your local Blockbuster doesn't have any pre-viewed copies available to purchase, just rent it and keep it. If you keep it out for 2 weeks, Blockbuster will just auto-sell it to your account. Probably for only 4 or 5 bucks more than what you paid for it.

This has been Blockbuster's policy since they terminated late fees. "If you like it, you can own it."

reply

Hee hee hee. Blockbuster.

"Ruins of an ancient civilization"

reply

This movie is quite the good movie! I love it, too.

reply

Hi! Good job i must say! And i have a question, do you know how to get the soundtrack to this movie? By Ralph Rieckermann..?! / kim

reply

Does anybody know how we can get the soundtrack?? Ralph's work is awesome!

reply

I bought mine at Blockbuster. It was earlier tonight so I have not watched it yet.

Will Smith & John Stamos are the hottest men ever!

reply

You're so lucky. This movie was amazing. Are you, by any chance, going to be a zombie in the sequel?
Oh, and did you get shot? :]

reply

There's gonna be a *beep* sequel???? Holy *beep* I love the world!!!Woo-hoo!

reply

I think you all should be hanged, drawn and quartered for working in this piece of *beep* and bragging about it. This is one of the worst movies I've seen and trust me, I've seen many bad movies.

I respect your opinion but I think you're mistaken. The Asylum doesn't try to be like Focus or Mirimax or Lion's Gate or Paramount Classic and try to distribute the world's best indie films. This is knees in the dirt horror-fanatic-mania. It doesn't try to be anything other than a bunch of distasteful, gory, poorly acted horror/comedy *beep* with as many cool effects and angles to try and save it. It does that for me. I don't take things so seriously. I know how to sit back and enjoy blowing time with crap like this. Italian food and an Asylum, Tempe or Full Moon film is a good Wednesday night when there's nothing else to do for me. Low-budget horror is an acquired taste. I love it. Some do also. Some don't also. Either way, it doesn't make anyone an idiot.

English, *beep* do you speak it?

Cool effects? Gore? What the hell are you babbling about? Majority of Asylum flicks are just incomprehensible, shot-in-three-days-home videos. I love bad horror films but even then there has to be some sort of catch. Asylum flicks don't have any, they're just plain bad.

reply

Damn right,

I LOVE cheap gratuitous horror, but this film was BORING, and that's the worst crime any horror film can make.

Check out 'Skinned Deep' for some seriously inventive low-budget horror. Or 'Phantasm' for goodness' sake!

I liked that movie. It was good for being such low budget film! I´m definitely going to watch it again..

I've never had the slightest desire to see another zombie flick since Night of the Living Dead. I knew, going in, that I was probably not going to like this movie - and I wasn't disappointed.

With that said, I was impressed in places by the soundtrack and the production quality was very good. The editing was actually impressive in a few scenes. The camera work was very good at times, as well. I've seen a lot worse acting in movies that I actually enjoyed. All in all, for that kind of budget, I think they did a hell of a job. You could tell that it was created, start to finish, by people motivated to do something for the joy of it, rather than for a paycheck.

If I had to pick a favorite zombie encounter - it would be the first one, in the saloon. Not with the bartender - with the guy "asleep" at the bar. Great classic zombie and not afraid to take a great stunt fall when he was shot.

Best edited scene was the first "parade" of emerging zombies, as they were ambling along the boardwalk. Good camera angles and clip work.

reply

Wow... I haven't looked at this in FOREVER. I worked on this film as the Key Production Assistant as well as a Zombie. As a matter of fact, I'm the aforementioned "asleep" zombie. I'm credited as "Bar Patron"
I for one had never worked on a film before. When I found out about this film, I had NO Idea what to expect. For a $70,000 Budget Film, I was actually impressed with alot of the Camera Work and editing. Byron Werner, the DP on the film has an amazing eye and knows exactly what shot he wants. I've since seen some of his other work, and I'm always impressed.

As for my "fan" above, thanks. :) It made me smile to see I was someone's Favorite.
A little tidbit that I thought was funny. We ran that take several times, for practice and multiple Angles. Each time, I fell to the hard wood floor. On the final take, Someone (I THINK it was the AD) said "Ok, bring in the mattress".. I was like "Um... I've just hit the floor 15 Times. I think the mattress is a little late". Everyone got a good laugh.

All in all working on the film was a blast, and was an Experience I will cherish. Everyone was so much fun to work with. From Richard Miranda, the F/X Master, Keith who was our Principal Makeup, Carla's Wardrobe, and Sunshine's Sets. Everything that took place over that month or so was an experience that will hold a special place in my heart.

For all you nay-sayers out there, yes. The movie sucked. For a 70 Grand, Independent movie what do you expect? It's not a Dawn of the Dead, or Evil Dead of course. But for some, I know it was the best experience of their lives. So be a little kind and understanding. :)

Eric,

I'm credited as Stunt Coordinator on this film. In all honesty, I was only on set for two days.

The last few days of shooting were behind an old theatre, and the theatre itself was being used for the church scenes. I had been called into the theatre to set up a live wild west stunt show. So I literally stumbled onto the set. While talking to crew, I kept hearing stories of how many actors were getting hurt. I asked who the stunt coordinator was and... there wasn't one. Duh... of course actors were getting hurt. You never should have hit the floor 15 times.

So anyway, I was told they had fight heavy days coming up and they were worried about the actors (about time). After taking a quick peek at my resume (something you always have on you in LA) they hired me as Stunt Coordinator for the last two days of filming.

I choreographed all the action sequences in the Church and I also played the zombie that got hit with the statue of Mary who did a flying spin into a row of seats and smashed them. Problem was... they shot it so dark you can barely see it.

Eh... that's show biz.

reply

Hahaha! I remember the church scenes. I actually did one of the Foley clips that cracked Dana and everyone else up. I was supposed to Growl and then hit the floor. (Think this was before you showed up. You're the "cowboy" right?) Anyway, I more or less....grunted... Hit the floor with a very loud thud, lay perfectly still...Until I hear Dana in the hall BURST into a laugh...

It was definately good times, and I would definately do it again. I had a great time.

reply

Screw the naysayers, this movie was just mindless fun. The plot made no sense, the acting was only a step above an Ed Wood film, and the ending was just a little bit too much like Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter's ending, but in the horror biz that's not always bad. If you see the guys at Asylum again, tell 'em to keep on doing what they do.

reply

i didnt watch it yet. ijust bought it at wal-mart for a buck. the back said "don't miss this nail-biting modern horror classic." and that was hilarious all by itself so i had to get it. it was a *beep* dollar! =D

"Awesome movie quote that a million other people have but that I think is clever and original."

reply

Yep, I saw it for a buck at WalMart Today. I didn't buy it but will next week when I go back. Sounds like fun.

I like what people are saying on this thread about working on the film...best times of their lifes. That's awesome. I forget that, that real people took time out and were paid to work on even small time films like this.

Looking forward to watching it.

reply

I watched this some time ago and it wasn't that bad. It's definitely not one I'll reach for all the time. There's some very cute girls in the cast.

reply

Hey, just wanted to drop a quick post here.
I also found this at Walmart as a Asylum/Digiview release and picked it up not expecting much, as Digiview is usually junk, but I was really surprised! I was even inspired enough to write a short review on the site where I catalogue my DVD collection.

Here's a link to the page with the review (about half way down the page): http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1181486942

Thanks for makin' a pretty cool movie, guys!

Also, I REALLY liked one of the songs on the soundtrack and I'm trying to find it. I noticed alot of people like the soundtrack, so if any of you have any luck getting answers, please let me know as well.

Thanks for the story about the scene. As has been said before, it sounds like making the film was alot of fun. That usually makes a film alot better for me, to hear that the people making it had a good time.

I plan on reviewing this on my site soon, just rented and watched it for the second time the other day (been a while since I first saw it).

Take care!
