The reason people are always hating on Christians

I watch this show and I'm a Christian, but many people think this show is the reason people always hate Christians. I believe in spreading my faith, but I'm not going to push it on people if they aren't ready to hear it. Maybe people should consider alternative ways to spread their faith. Yelling at someone and waving a Bible in their face won't help; it will just make them upset.

reply

And even then, if one does become a believer in response to those tactics, it is for the wrong reason...FEAR. Many Christians todays have lost the ability to discern and talk to those who are looking or will be receptive to what they have to say. Instead, they think they must be upfront extremists, slapping us in the face with their belief. There is something to be said for setting examples and living by them as opposed to running off at the mouth, making proclamations and judgments. Luckily, there are still some Christians left who understand this.

I agree. Christians are supposed to spread their faith, but many of us are driving nonbelievers away with the wrong tactics. People should become Christians because they want to; not b/c it was pushed on them or it makes them afraid to not be a Christian.

True eddiechristo and I would add to that that tomorrow may not come and if you wait for *them* to be ready they will end up in Hell because you think it will be better to wait till tomorrow. Jesus' action "turned away" the rich young man and he asked how to get to Heaven! Jesus didn't tell him to just have faith in Him or say a prayer. It's better to be in your face and soundly save 1 out of 4 then to be buddy-buddy and having a 99% of the people make a *decision* and ending up in Hell. Fear of Gods wrath will lead to the cross and once there we are to 'Judge Rightly' as commanded to by God in the Bible! The whole book of 1st and 2nd corinthinans is all about those christians getting judged *for NOT judging* and many other things; and then being told how to fix themselves.

eddiechristo and ltjodie, you both reflect that tiresome attribute of believers, you are scared into believing in God. You are proof that religion's basic foundation is in fear, scaring people, the terror of hell if you don't believe THIS way. You are so deluded by this irrational fear of mythology, and I do truly feel sorry for you both. Rationalize that you are on a path of wisdom all you want, but the pathetic truth is that you are scared of questioning what you are told by your doctrine. You never stop to think that all the other religions you denounce as lies keep their respective followers in line with this exact same fear tactic...the fear of hell if you dare not follow them. It's blind belief, manipulation by religion at it's finest. You aren't kids anymore. You don't need the fear of a spanking to use common sense and make the right choices in life.

I posted this in another topic you should read it before questioning how I got to my faith.

You know what? I've tried to be civil, all you've done is taken everthing I've said out of context or twisted it. I have people I have to talk to face to face who are open and want the Turht and the facts. You have your mind made up. I don't have time to have a back and forth with you for the rest of my life. I'm sorry, but I can't go down these rabbit trails with you that you are making by taking EVERYTHING I say and twisting it. I have answerd every question you have posed but all you have done is posed more question. When I ask you something you don't answer it, you just pose another question. I'm the one answering out of my limited knowledge [by the way you seem wholy unable to admit that you don't know everything] from my heart and what I have learned from my own readings, not just what others have told me [I have, myself, read the Qur'an, I know the Eight Fold Path, and I have read the Books of Mormon and the the New Wolrd Translation used by the JWs. I have also read On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of *Favoured Races* in the Struggle for Life by Darwin.] from my heart and love for you and anyone else that may read these posts. You however have answerd with no *science*; you use only speculation based on flawed logic. Just so you know I'm not answering your next post because all this will get is hate and indignation as my other posts have.

It's a classic example of sticking one's fingers in their ears and yelling LALALALALALALALA as loud as they can, for they haven't the ability to counter the points made. Note how the issue of every religion having many adamant believers and a hell to keep them in line was completely ignored! Instead, all these types can do is get hurt by the truth and try to pretend like they are hated. Who cares if ltjodie doesn't read my posts, for I am more interested in all the people who do read these threads and do get the point...all those who never bother to post. I get messages from people all the time that have read these debates and haven't posted comments themselves. Hopefully, ltjodie can start thinking outside the box and realize that these responses aren't personal attacks, but instead attempts to present some clear thinking. Crying and running away says quite a bit.

Ok, here's what I think. We should spread our faith without scaring people. True, they will go to hell if they don't believe but there are other ways of saying it. People should become Christians because they desire a relationship with God, and not just because they're scared of hell. That's my opinion and if you disagree, that's fine.

Actually, I agree with you born_to_be_famous, not in the content of your statements, but rather in the context. I am not out to force you to forget your belief or anything of the like, but I simply appreciate the fact that you are not in support of scaring people into your belief with the idea of hell like so many other believers seem to want to do.

If I am not afraid of Hell, than why would I want to
get saved or become a Christian in the first place?
This issue is addressed in some episodes!
You DON'T come to Jesus to be made happy, but to flee
from the wrath to come,TO MISS HELL!

Which exposes the poppycock that religion is. WOW, I can't believe that you don't see how insane it is to be scared into thinking it's all real. Why aren't you scared into thinking you're headed to the Islamic hell, or any other belief system's hell? Nothing in your belief makes it any more real than the next, but you are terrified of burning forever if you don't follow your strict doctrine that you refuse to see how manipulated you are...manipulated by your own fear. I am sorry, but no amount of rationalization in the world makes your belief any more real than the others, so I ask again, why aren't you scared of the other hells too? How do you go about picking a belief and blindly sticking with it, never questioning it, turning a blind eye to the fact that you have placed blind faith in one of many unprovable belief systems? Why do you allow illogical fear to overwhelm you like this? I sure am glad that I am nothing like you anymore, walking around scared of hell if I ever use my brain to question mytholgy.

What separates Christianity from all the other
religions is the fact that Jesus died for YOU

reply

What separates it from others is 'SEMANTICS" just like that which you just delivered above. It's a different angle, but still nothing more than a man made religion.

Positive. I've read it numerous times, so please don't ASSUME that I have not just because I no longer share in the belief. It's a man-made religion just like all the rest. Claims that it is god-inspired are just that...claims. Anyone can make them, and too many blindly believe it. It's no different than those who believe cult leaders and the things they say. They take it at face value. Religion may have an old text, but a claim is still a claim, one that has no "real" merit other than the choice to buy into it.

There is proof that Christianity is real. If you just open your heart, God will reveal himself to you. It is a real religion. I've experienced God working through my life. I couldn't have had that happen without Christianity.

Proof is subjective and can be made to support whatever people want it to support. Why do you think that some believers claim their is proof of their religion when there isn't, or why some athiests claim there is proof of evolution when there isn't? The great debate could descend into posting numerous links that "prove" whatever point of view, but they are always biased "facts" presented in a way that best supports the personal belief of the individual stating it.

As far as opening my heart goes, I fail to see what I could possibly get by going back to doing that again. It isn't like I haven't been there and done that before. Religion is not real for me, but I truly am glad that it works for you.

"When the biblical scripture talks about fear, It doesn't mean fear as to be threaten, but fear as reverence"

I disagree with you to a degree. While fear may be used that way on the surface, do you deny that the christian doctrine all boils down to believing in god or being destroyed? Christians tend to want to avoid that bare-boned description of their belief, but really, that's it in a nutshell. Belief is spurred on by the fear of hell, whether the individual believes in eternal torment of merely death as the only alternative. I take your point, but my own point is that fear is a true foundation of religion from the beginning, with reverence only being the reactionary rationalization.

I think your right but I think we need a little of both. I think if Christians come and only scare someone into not wanting to go to hell...it'll only work for a short time but won't last if it does work at all. You have to talk about Gods love as well, but hell has to be in there somewhere...but not as a fear tactic. I'm not a Christian cause I don't want to go to hell...I don't...but I'm a Christian because God is the only One I can count on for everything no matter what...He loves me so much He died for me...and that's what needs to be shared...
