I'm glad BET made the foolish decision to drop Mr. Smiley because now he is free to interview a far more diverse group of people on his PBS show. I look forward to it and the Charlie Rose Show every night.
Tavis Smiley on PBS is a great talk show. He asks tough questions, pulls no punches, and is still cordial to all of his guests. I agree with you; Tavis needs a whole hour. When BET went corporate and fired Tavis Smiley, I thought those guys were the biggest group of morons on the planet. All I have to say is thank goodness for PBS!
shareI didnt know they fired him although b.e.t. has changed since I used to watch it back when it seemed educating and engaging with good stuff on it like Video Soul but I think it was sold and after that it went down hill and became more ghettoish and more into the hiphop stuff !

Actually DeathtoPC, Tavis Smiley has built his career on eschewing the so called "black racist verbal diarrhea" that you are accusing him of promoting. If you would watch his show instead of stereotyping him you would know that, but perhaps you simply are not cultured enough to watch a talk show on PBS. I could assume that Larry the Cable Guy would be more up your alley, but I would be making an ignorant, slightly racist assumption like you have therefore I will simply suggest that you watch Tavis' show before you dismiss it.

I agree. I think he is the best talk show host on television and his show is the best talk show on tv. He's very well informed. You can tell he's done his homework. He's very polite and respectful to all of his guests. I like it that his show is done with no bells or whistles or any kind of gimmicks. Just an intersting intelligent conversation between 2 people. Such a simple concept. I think he's one of the best kept secrets in all of television.
