favorite movies with rap stars.

State Property is hands down my favorite movie starring rappers. I did like Snipes a lot though. I hope that State Property 2 is as good as it's original. What are some other favorites?

When you put rap "stars" in them, that automatically reduces the score of the movie by 8. So I'm guessing none.

I have a hard time agreeing with you. I am just going to toss out a random classic: Friday or maybe Boyz in tha Hood. Both of those are big roles for Ice Cube who was a huge rapper right before he made these movies. Also both of these films are pretty much classics. Now as far as State Property goes, it is just a really fun gangster movie. Great one liners and Beanie Seagal actually holds his own in this one. Just my opinion, you know?

reply

Baby Boy, Juice, Above the Rim, Crash, State Property, Belly.

reply

I do agree that not all movies with rappers suck. That is an ignorant statement. Boyz n that Hood and Juice are good examples. I wouldn't say Crash is a movie in that category just because Ludacris has a few scenes. I would think about movies where the rappers are starring or the whole cast is rappers. I haven't seen State Property 1 or 2 but my friend swears by them. Belly is pretty good, Baby Boy is just okay. Above the Rim is also a good movie. Does Will Smith count as a rapper that acts? Because if so then he has a bunch of great flicks.

reply

yeah, I loved state property I have not seen two yet. I bought it today and I am so excited to see it. I am glad that other people have good taste and it isn't just that one guy who hates these kind of movies to reply

Cant forget about Paid in full, which is a Roc a fella classic, and featured rapper Cam'ron. State Prop 1 was ok, beans did an ok job at actin, but state property 2 just *beep* up that franchise. It was too many cameos and appearances from so many rappers and the movie was only a hour long. It had no real story line and those stupid voice overs made me wanna throw a shoe at the tv wen i was watchin it. And the biggest thing was it wasnt cosistant at all with the first film, beans started off as a drug dealer in the first film, then in the second they gon say he been slangin since he was 12. and second whats up wit the young gunz. they had a role in the first one, how they gon come and play two different people in this one.

My bad got off subject a lil bit, but my favorite movies wit rap stars and Boyz n da hood, Paid in full, Baby boy, Juice, Above the Rim, Snipes, and barbershop (ice cube and eve).

also forgot mark wahlberg was a rapper 1st and he is hella consistant

I gotta say Cam'Ron did a surprisingly good job in Paid in Full even though his role was basically playing himself. But Paid in Full is definetly up there in movies starring a rap artist I put it as number one on my list. It's such a good movie with really cool ways they show the story.

Top 5:

Boyz in da Hood
Poetic Justice
Set it Off
Baby Boy
Juice

This discussion is too simpleminded for me, but I just wanted to inform you kids that MC Eiht was in Menace II Society. With this knowledge, everyone who included Baby Boy in their list can go back and replace it with Menace.

reply

My top list would probably be:

Boyz n the Hood
Three Kings
Friday

And to a certain extent:

8 Mile (great battles, otherwise kind of $hitty)
How High (funny as hell, story = not so great)

Hm what was the movie called starring Ice T and Wesley Snipes as a druglord? New Jack City if my memory doesn't fail me. That's probably the best movie starring a rapper.

reply

*New Jack City- Ice-T
*Boyz In the Hood, Friday 1-3,Higher learning - Ice-cube
*Baby Boy- Snoop Dogg
*Menace to society - MC Eight, Yo-Yo (Pac was supposed to be in it)
*Juice, Poetic Justice,Gang related -Pac
* Straped, Sunset Park - Fredro Star
* Lockdown Master P, Sticky Fingaz
* 8mile - Eminem, Xzibit

But How can you all forget the classic............House Party??? Ha Ha

Surviving the game with Ice T.

Pretty good.
Even Rutger Haur did a fairly decent villain in that one.
"Never underestimate a man who has nothing to loose" is my favourite quote from that one. Since this is not a movie about the music world or the street it is nice to see Ice T. without any of that famous hiphop/rap attitude and lingo.

Chris Rock is the best part of New Jack City even if he is not a rapper or a hip hopper. This is still his best work in my opinion.

But my favourite movie of all times involving any tye of musician is Crossroads with Ralph Macchio and an acidic Joe Seneca.
Steve Vai is awesome in that one as Jack Butler, guitarist from hell.

The two guys who mentioned the film Paid In Full have it on point. Hands down the best film i've seen starring a rapper: Cam'ron. Watch it, you must! :D
