A Stylish Mess

As a spectacle, there is much to like about Night Watch, but as a narrative, it is all over the place. Plus, because it is so hyper-stylised, the action scenes lack a flowing motion, frequently being reduced to a series of jerky and incoherent flashy images. I haven't read the novel, but I would assume that the Vortex must have more relevance than it gets in the film? I'm going to watch Day Watch soon, so hopefully things may become clearer.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. A hat made of jelly, green jelly.

Yes, the novel is quite different and much more logical. As for the second movie, while it may do *some* things clearer, the vortex arc is over.

I've seen Night Watch and Day Watch both in one evening and that helps. By the end of the first part you are used to the style and way of telling a story. The story becomes more complicated but in a way it makes more sense then.

reply

Jeez, the last thing this story needs is more complication. I agree with the OP.
