Oh what! American's didn't like it?

Yeah, it must be good then. Seriously, all these bad ratings just help perpetuate the belief that americans are just too dumb to appreciate any film that doesn't spoon-feed them the ending or the moral of the story.

I think the best example is comparing the 2 versions of Solyaris. The russian version is an existencialist struggle. The american version is just an egotisctical dumbed down version that could be resumed as "What if I'm not special". And don't even get me started with Anna Karenina...

reply

There were three versions of Solyaris: a 1968 TV movie, the 1972 movie, and the 2002 movie. As for Anna Karenina, are you referring to the latest adaptation? If so, that's not a Hollywood Production.

Not all of us feel that way. I live here in the US and I really enjoyed this film when it was released to DVD, and prefer to watch the Russian version with English subtitles.
I also liked Day Watch and wish they would make the third (rumored) film.

It took me a few viewings to take it all in, but I've become a fan of these two films, especially the actors.

It is a unique relationship the Night Watch and Day Watch have.

Shut up you ignorant bigot. If you were American, you'd be a Republican telling gay people that they can't get married, minorities that they cant vote, and that others cannot have opinions - which is exactly what you're doing here.

reply

Why do you ignorant libs insist on reaching WAYYYY into left field to bring up your totally (unrelated to the thread) failed politics?

It's always you ignorant,lame-brain conservative wack jobs always dragging your viewpoint in discussions where nobody even asked for it, so screw off.

Are you serious? Did you read the post I responded to? Who was one of the "wack jobs always dragging your viewpoint in discussions where nobody even asked for it,"? I'll give you a hint: It wasn't me.

I get the impression the OP didn't actually bother to watch the film anyway and was seemingly more interested in just stirring the pot.🐭

Non-US users 30283 6.5

It looks like US watchers liked it slightly more than non-us watchers.

This is one of my favorite movies, but everyone has their own taste. Obviously, your idea on Americans bringing down the ratings is incorrect however.

Another jealous, third world living, hovel dwelling putz trying to make him/it's self feel better by making unfounded generalizations about over 300,000,000 people. Enjoy your unsanitary water.

By the way, I gave it a 10.

American and European films are very different, but don't use that as an excuse to bash America. I don't like US-bashing on British boards, it embarrasses my nation, I'm also not the first to defend Russia, but creating US-Russia antagonism is pointless. What's next? Something Palestinian on an Israeli movie board?

Few Americans get European movie-telling unless they are brought up on it the same way we are brought up on theirs. or they seek it out thanks to the Internet. It's not their fault, it's the US distributors that would either not show a movie or remake it for a US audience.

I know a dozen Americans online and they enjoy the same stuff we do, because they are exposed to it.

No need to be a rude ass to express your (INCORRECT) opinion. I am American and I really enjoyed both Night Watch and Day Watch. I especially thought the effects they did with the subtitles to incorporate them into the movie was amazing! I've never seen that done in a movie before. This was my first Russian film, and it has prompted me to definitely check out some others. I will definitely recommend these movies to others and rewatch them with my husband.

Yeah, I really liked that part too----it was pretty imaginative and unique. Liked both the Night and Day films, and I'm American. I think the fact us Americans have had virtually no exposure to Russian horror/fantasy films might also have something to do with why I lot of us liked it.

That's an incredibly stupid mind set. Different Americans have different tastes in entertainment and different levels and types of intellectuality, just like every other country. I know you may just be trying to troll, but if you were serious, you have absolutely no business insulting anyone's intelligence.
