Jim Parsons' character?

He's the main reason I want to see this flick. From what I gathered watching the trailer, he's a fellow slacker who turns his back on the main character. Is he as delightful in this as he is in...well, everything else?

He sure is delightful actor but not much convincing in this film, I guess.
