Highly under rated!
I think this movie has been highly under rated.
It contains some pure comedy moments, some very emotional moments and what's more, great acting by all!

Holly Hunter's moments were classic, when you first hear her talk and she just starts cursing out the kid, pure classic comedy.

I liked it. Saw it on BBC 1 last night and found it funny and entertaining.

shareI disagree here, while i enjoy most of Robin Williams movies, i found this a bit flat.
im not saying it is a bad movie, it is just not an excellent movie.
The main problem was the poor character development and them not having any depth.
for example, it was not clear how was the relationship between Williams and his wife, when did she develop the illness, why don't they have kids ? how did they end up in Alaska ?
Another is, how was the relationship between Williams and his brother ( Woody ) ? why was his brother so aggressive ? and violent ?
Also the relationship between Giovani and his girlfriend/fiance/ wife ? what was she to him anyways ? i only found out she was his girlfriend at the end.
And then there is the two criminals/killers, why did they kill that guy and threw him in the dumpster ? who are they exactley ? what is their purpose and what is thier background ?
And they there is a plot hole, when Williams leaves his wife with the criminals at their house, he goes to his brother's house..but when people go look for him, they go to his brother's house instead of going to William's house which is the natural place to look.
For example his brother gets to him at his own house after reading about his staged death on the papers, also , the insurance agent ( giovani ) also goes to confront him at his brother's house instead of going to his own house !!??

There was just too many questions that went unanswered. I thought everything really didn't work. It was so flat and bland.
what genre was this? Wasn't funny enough or quirky enough to be a comedy. It had zero suspense, so it couldn't have been a thriller. weak moments of drama, so couldn't have been a drama. I know every movie doesn't have to be a specific genre but this had nothing in my opinion.
I just didn't get any of the characters at all!

You're reading too much into it and expecting a "Hollywood" film where everything is laid out for you. This gem of a film answers all those questions in the peripheral.
