'70-80s East Village

Y'know this movie was part of my first summer ('05) moving to LA. I wished my neighborhood and community were more like this place and time. I thought the Bowie performance on SNL rocked better than recorded versions of those songs. The thought of this movie and those songs -- either Nomi or Bowie -- make me feel like I'm hungover, jobless and sweating from the heat again.

I agree. That transitional period inbetween the 70's and 80's was the last period, in my opinion, where there was really any unique music produced by low-budget artists. Klaus worked his way up from obscurity and added so much to the popular music scene.
Plus, housing prices in New York City, even in the "artsy" part have just become phenomenal.
It's kind of sad.
