Why do the Indians screech like animals??

For real, it seems almost cliche...I now they had a distinctive war cry when charging into battle, but it seemed hard to believe that they would just screech, when going about their business. They are also shown, acting like simple, docile animals...seems hard to believe any human would regularly act like that..

I like the Thin Red Line, but turned this one off 20 minutes in, will watch the rest later.

Regarding how the indians were depicted, I would imagine a lot of modern Native Americans would find it offensive..

what do you think?

Given the fact that it was Indians who actually portrayed the Algonquin, and that they were trained BY fellow Indians, I'd guess that:

1) this was normall behavior - and makes perfect sense, given their great respect for animals & the natural world

2) they weren't offended
