Extended Cut authenticity

did Malick supervise the edit for the Extended Cut?

I've only ever seen the Theatrical version, because I heard Malick had nothing to do with the Extended version. and given he edited the film DOWN to 135 minutes in the first place, I find it hard to believe he wanted a 170 minute version, but I've heard recently that maybe he did supervise the cut.

I can't find anything definitive online.

anyone have the answer?

All three cuts of this film are by Malick. The first was a 150 minute version when it premiered, which Malick edited down to 135 minutes for the general release. After completing the film he decided to go back and produce a version for those who enjoyed the film and were open to an alternate, longer cut.

Anything that has Mr. Malick's name on it has his stamp of approval, rest assured of that.

The extended cut is superior. I enjoyed the theatrical cut, but it lacks the clarity of the longer cut.
