Another boring pretentious canadian film center amateur night

Acting - amateur/pretentious
story -amateur/pretentious
direction-amateur/pretentious
cinematography- Really good TELEVISION COMMERCIAL-- NOT CINEMA

I really don't understand the amount of discussion afforded to this film. As far as I could tell it was a really expensive student film with a pseudo intellectual *beep* plot. The only reason I am discussing it now is due to the plot summary on the main page which proclaimed this fim the second coming of hanibal lecter, this awful film somehow changed the life of the poor reviewer CAPPYLAROU and I feel for the poor soul. Like a previous reviewer noticed, it seems alot of people who worked on the film are writing comments (overblown adoration for this piece of crap...is cappylarou the writer or the director?) Anybody who has even seen a screwball comedy knows this film had worse acting. Even the extras with no dialogue were bad actors, they couldn't make me believe that they were walking casually behind the scene!!

You have a problem with Canadian films?

reply

he has a problem with himself^^

that's all. the movie sticks and it is great. i loved it.

reply

Nah, it wasn't that bad. It was a pretty good low-budget psychological thriller/horror. It did not seem amateurish, just low-budget. But that was ok. I've seen far worse big budget horror from Hollywood.

reply

if Hollywood movies are so great and b-movies are so bad then why even bother wasting your time here?

As Jerry Seinfeld would say, this guy just likes saying pretentious.

reply

You don 't even know what pretentious means, do you?

reply

I do, and you seem to fit the definition yourself achoo71, err I mean akiblue71. As well you come off as jealous, as though if given the chance you could create a better film. Which is a joke, and a unfunny one at that. You as well seem to suffer from a lack of respect, Canadian is spelled with a capital "C" you sad POS, it's OK though as I am sure that whatever backwater kin-mounting country you are from is not anything special. That said have a nice day.

"Durka my Gherkin or I'll Jihad your Dad"

reply

Since when is "Canadian" spelled with a capital C?

I'm not a native english speaker so it's possible that I've missed this during my adventures through school, but is this an actual convention?

reply

Yep, 'Canadian' has a captial letter, and so does 'English'!

I've got to agree. I think that this schizo topic is becoming increasingly trite. I saw it coming a mile away. It seems that the filmmakers think being confusing makes a good movie, but to be honest, it doesn't even succeed at that. It's pseudo-intellectual art house bullcrap that so many people want to jump all over. Don't get me wrong, I like B-horror. But this just wasn't that great.

reply

Really? I kind of enjoyed it. I mean sure, it wasn't American Psycho, but I've seen worse. It was nice to see the victim-villain role reversal, too, and it avoided a few home-invasion-torture cliches.

I don't foresee any oscars in it's future, but I don't get the ferocity of your reaction. I mean dude, if you think this is rough, watch something like Mexican Werewolf in Texas.

Plus, don't be knocking on Canadian film. What is this 'another' business you speak of?

reply

Okay. So you didn't like the movie. Pretentious pseudo intellectual crap. Cool. That's cute and all.

I think that this movie accomplished something that not a lot of recent horror films have. Was is the coming of the next Hannibal Lecter? No. But it's not trying to be. The movie is scary - without taking cheap shots to startle the audience. The majority of horror films don't actually scare you - they startle you, that's the only way they can even GET you to jump.

I can safely say that this sent chills up my spine. It was pretty experimental as far as directing - there were a lot of theatrical elements that I see more present in plays than screenplays.

I agree - the whole 'LOL WE GOTCHU THE PROTAGONIST IS A KILLER LOL' thing is getting REALLY old. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie. I think it deserves the IMDB rating it got. Above average.

Maybe you found it overtly prentious because it was pretty abstract for film. Which is brave. We bring abstraction into theatre because, let's face it, it's impossible to stage everything that's written in a realistic manner. And theatre is simply NOT realistic. Neither is cinema REALLY. You go into a theatre, or watch a movie - accepting by default that this is not real. These are actors. The angles and shots in films alone zero in on aspects of life that we simply don't pick up.

I didn't work on this film. I'm not even Canadian. I'm just saying..chill out and don't jump to conclusions. Just because the film connected to someone else and not to you does not automatically mean OMG THEY'RE WRONG I'M RIGHT. No one's right, no one's wrong.

And yes, I can see where you're coming from with some of your points. But really..if the film made you look it up and go to the trouble of posting an entire rant - that's still better than feeling nothing at all atleast it made you think about why you hated it so much and it provoked some sort of emotion.

What is it with some Americans? Some seem so secure in their ignorant superiority while at the same time being totally insecure about themselves and their country.

Hollywood is very good at producing a certain type of film, while awful at others. The diatribe (above - akiblue71) is typical of this attitude.

I am not a film snob by any means and love movies from many countries, but the constant banging on by some people on any non US film is amazing!

Why do they bother to 1) watch these films if they hate them. 2) Go to the trouble of then posting their "views" (Rants?)

I know many and work with many people from the US, (Games industry , USMC and others) and they are great people who are by and large cosmopolitan and well read and great friends.

Why is it so many who can hardly string a sentence together feel obliged to post constantly knocking any non US film.

LOL, oh well, why complain its always gonna happen as its all these people can say.

Well done on the film, v enjoyable and GOO cinema!

Greetings,

I for one love the various perspectives of film-makers across the globe. With a market dominated by huge budgets and a closed network (Out west, Hollywood), it's great to see a film that slows down a bit, doesn't give you a million camera angles and helps you appreciate the small instances in life that remind us that we are living and not just watching and accepting the reality that is being placed visually before us.

I do wonder, how much this Indie film made through marketing and distribution and where can I find this information. I have been doing research on the Feature Films released by the "Cineplex Film Program" and came across this film. Being a Canadian ('oops, the word was underlined read when it was not capitalized') I would like to know what journey lies ahead when it comes time for a project of that magnitude, I would love to judge the amount of effort they put and their reasonable returns.

Cheers,
Julius Jones-Carter
