Crappiest movie of the year

I have seldom seen such a *beep* The story was the dumbest crap a storywriter could imagine. You shouldn't mix various genres if you don't have the slightest clue how movies are made. Totally crappy mixing of X-files with Rambo and some documentary about turkish druglords is the result you can see in this movie.

reply

Yes, there were more holes in the plot than in a swiss cheese and the acting and direction were atrocious.

reply

there were so many holes in the plot that I believe they never had a real plot, they just had an idea I think. and they thought "hey, we don't need a plot, neither a story, It's gonna be a cheap action anyway!"

reply

What versions did you guys see ? What language ? Did you watch it with subtitles ?
I'm french and i understood the whole movie. Before criticizing the plot, maybe the subtitles didn't translate the movie right. Now, the Crimson rivers was hard to understand, many holes in the story, even in French.

reply

Oh, so the film is about making it worse than an american one. Thank you. Now, appart from thinking over night which cinema is the crappiest, I can watch something else !

reply

thats impossible... ameriKKKan hollywood crap is the worst

reply

I'm french also and it still sucks donkey's gonads ... My wife and i are big Jean RENO fans and we were amazed by what we saw , back the last 20 minutes we were hoping it ended fast ... terrible movie ... : (

Just my thoughts, mate! I am a fan of french cinema (or at least I was ) because they used to make movies soooo different from Hollywood mindless blockbusters. But nowadays they are trying to produce the same kind of $hit. That's really Sad, sad, sad.

Now we only have the swedishes and danes (austrians perhaps) as our very last hope!

reply

First,

The movie itself was not crap, but the writing seems to be hacked together. It seemed well acted, and had a nice visual look and well choreographed action.

But I was a confused at many points, and perhaps a native speaker could clarify if these were translation problems:

The main charactor happens to be in the Grey Wolves super assasin project
and coincidentally get snagged up in a secret government plot. so she is accidently involuntarily made into a super spy... twice? why make is accidental? if the french secret service just knew who she was and chose to turn her then the whole plot would have worked.

In the english subtitled version: a key plot point involves the hero doing a yahoo search on an ultra secret terrorist organization, where he finds THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL CHART and a map to their secret headquarters, thereby allowing the poorly paced movie to get to the end 15 minutes faster.

reply

I understand french but they are right the storyline was too far fetched and there were a lot of wholes in it. (it began as a psychological thriller à la silence of the lambs and it ended as a James Bond movie, c'mon)

By the way how did survived Jean Reno's character that fall with the stairs ?
And why could Anna handle 3 armed and trained men without any troubles but later on she was suddenly to weak to handle Reno's character?
To many questions.....

This movie probably was written so they could put popular Jean Reno in it, in order to get a bigger audience, nothing more.

The same case with Rivières pourpres un et deux.(especially the second one, terrible bad movie).

I'm Belgian by the way.

reply

She wasn't too weak to handle Reno; they did a deal where they both got something out of it, so she wanted to go with him.

reply

Bummer that the film sucks so badly. Just read the book, and thought it was pretty good; wasn't overwhelmed with the Epilogue; that could have been left out, and definitely had holes.

All of you should read the book, by Jean-Christophe Grange. At least it will clarify the plot a bit.

reply

There's definitely a plot: it's just not very plausible. It's almost like there's three different stories: the hi-tech thriller, the Grey Wolves story, and the serial killer. The stories are woven together, but it's very coincidental.

reply

Agreed. One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Terrible acting, no script to speak of. Idiots were let loose with money. What a waste of film.

I didnt get to the end , it was too painful to watch after about 25 minutes.

reply

I don't think the movie was so bad, though not great.
I was watching it with turkish subtitles and noticed some missing sentences, so I found english subtitles. but whoaa!! these two were quite different.. so different that it was funny! I tried 7 or 8 different english subtitles and in the end turned back to the turkish one, which seemed correct at least if not complete!
this could be a factor in not-understanfding the plot completely!

other thing: I'm a turk and I could understand too little of the phrases in turkish... I tried hard but no! at the end I thought the film-makers decided to use random mumblings to stand for turkish phrases, which must have seemed too difficult to pronounce in their original form!

why not employ a real turk for those roles? or use a speaking stunt at least :D

Don´t agree with any of you it´s a good movie it´s better lots of American movies where didyou saw Where did you see the plot holes? Everything is perfectly explained and understandable unless you´re (of course) a dumb that can´t understand the plot of a history which is very simple indeed... if you can´t understand the plot of this one you should try a Disney movie to begin with you might understand them (no offense) And for the guy that told it looked like a Rambo movie I didn´t saw a weapon fired that many times until the last sequence

The movie in my opinion is good specially the acting by Jean Reno as Louis Schiffer until the end of the movie you don´t know if he´s either a good guy or a bad guy. Arly Jover is pretty convincing also The only part that I didn´t like was the ending which I thought was pretty weak (not to say stupid). If it wasn´t for the "Nikita" cliches this movie would have been better.

What did you expect? A "Die hard" kind of movie?, nah this one is better.

reply

This is very interesting movie, not like another american thriller *beep*

reply

Absolutely awesome movie. Very complex, multifaceted. Lot's of layers. A movie to watch over and over again. I saw it first on DVD because it was never released in the US. Luckily I was able to watch it several times. I agree that the plot is difficult to understand the first time - but what the hey, if I'm into *stories* I'll read a book. Cinema is all about pictures and the images in this movie are AWESOME !!! I'm looking forward to own my personal copy of this film to watch it in HD on my large home screen again and again.

reply

Well if the movie's English subtitles indeed are so hard to understand, when compared with the French or Turkish versions, where is a good place online to go and learn French quickly so that I can watch it again and maybe "get" more of it? Not that I want to be an interpreter or anything, but I would like to start to learn the language.

reply

[deleted]

Just go to yahoo.com or google.com and type in "learn french free online"
and there you go. Check out www.frenchassistant.com looks alright I think.

reply

You are all full of crap. You just didn't follow the film so you want to tear it a new one. It was not all that bad. Not great, but different. Leave it at that.

reply

Although it was a clear B- movie, I think it was not worse then the *beep* they make in Hollywood every year: "Stealth", "Harry Potter", "Dick and Jane".

"Welcome to the real world..."

reply

Its cool to hate on cult hits, huh? Maybe if you got it you wouldnt hate it so much. But its french, so you gotta go into the movie with the intention of hating it. Well that's nice, if this is the worse movie you ever saw you dont get out much. But it isnt, I just checked your profile, you're a troll who's probably been banned a hundred times, you made a new account so you could make fun of another movie you dont like. You're a real winner, doing that.

reply

Do you mean me, ryanwh, or the original poster???

"Welcome to the real world..."

reply

>Although it was a clear B- movie, I think it was not worse then the *beep* they make in Hollywood every year: "Stealth", "Harry Potter", "Dick and Jane".

Yea, thanks. After comparing this movie with stealth i chose not to watch it. French Movies are in general better then Hollywood movies. I'm reffering to those Godards, Truffauts, Chabrol and other living classics. But if this movie is like Dick and Jane, which *beep* big time, i choose not to watch. I love Reno. resp. Jim Carrey, dont get me wrong. American movie is also great. I like Woody Allan and of course Jim Jarmusch or Tarantino. Without US Movies there would be no cinema.

I feel sorry for this kind of movies where talents and special effects are wasted. For action and thriller i turned a long time ago to Asian Movies (2005 Bitter sweet life). HongKong is also gaining up in the CGI Department (2005 Chinese Tall Story, The Promise). Combine action, acting with wonderful camera and you got Korean movies (2005 Crying Fist). :-)

reply

Whithout US Movies there would be no cinema?

Sorry pal the cinema didn´t start in the U.S. it started in Europe, so naturally the best cinema (and I´m not saying this is a great movie) comes from Europe. Specially from the central/north part (France,Germany,Sweden,Austria).

Without US movies there wouldn´t be popcorn

reply

you sure about that, Edison?

reply

Actually, Edison had nothing to do with cinema, it was his assistant. Plus, cinema was created in Europe (before Edisons Assistant) and was going well until WW2, at which point things moved to America.

reply

WW2? Do you have any idea when Edison invented anything, or even died? Yes, the assistant- "Most of this work was performed by Edison's assistant, William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, beginning in 1888. Motion pictures became a successful entertainment industry in less than a decade" (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/edhtml/edmvhm.html).

"Edison had nothing to do with cinema" - other than inventing the equipment and starting Edison Motion Picture (aka Black Maria) which made it's first movie in 1893. A wee bit earlier than WWII.

So, America invented movies, cinema, nickelodeans, etc. And, according to the person that I responded to initially, we invented popcorn.

reply

This movie was horrible....No plot at all, omni-present ambiant music to guide everyone of your feelings about every scene..Horrible acting (can't stress that enough, even in french all the actors sound like they've been dubbed by idiot voices)....Very pretencious movie with nothing in it exept a copycat Se7en atmosphere, some bull#hit good cop/bad cop so pathetic that you think it is to be taken in the 3rd degree...Crazy that french studios sponsor those kinds of movies...Represent for me the new generation of 'entertainment film' that don't have anything to propose except famous actors, nice woman and a terribly sadistic killer...Nothing new under the sun, such a petty that people are not tired yet of those kinds of crap....

reply

I thought it a good movie, like all foreign films it leaves you with something to think about a la David Lynch. Really if you couldn't follow the plot in the film what can you follow. All very self explanatory. Try looking, listening and deductive reasoning. Good on Reno. French style at its best.

reply

I kinda liked the directing, the story however was dumb and childish and some characters were just silly. Entertainig, but a B-level movie.

reply

This film was far from great, but it is also far from being the worst.

- It is the exception that confirms the rule -

reply

Yeah not the worst, I enjoyed it but man it rambled on and on and the plot was difficult as to follow. Weird..

reply

I can't believe I had to sit through such *beep* the script was all over the place and anything remotely exciting was undercut by some bloody awful scoring.
