All the clips - Want to go to the Mole

I loved catching glimpses of all the old clips in this film - makes me want to go to this museum, and watch them all there. I wish I knew what they all were taken from.

I was actually thinking about Metropolis shortly before this (I watched it on MUBI on the day that Metropolis came up for viewing) and there it was in the film. The clips from things like Neuropathology looked fascinating.

Has anyone been to the Mole museum? Recommended?

Some time has passed since you asked, I don't know if you have been in Turin since then.
Anyway, the Cinema Museum at the Mole worth a visit if you are a cinema lover, but don't expect to have a room full of old films to freely watch.
I think the Museum was conceived to stimulate curiosity towards cinema, with memorabilia and stuff like that, instead of giving a complete panorama of more 100 years of history of this art.
The rich and beautiful pre-cinema section is the one I like the most, because I'm a big fan of everything is connected with studying photography and moving images, magic lanterns, kinetoscopes, praxinescopes, optical illusions and so on. I could spend all day there.
The Museum has a permanent exhibition of movie posters and temporary themed (for example the theme could be "The Mirror") exibitions of movie clips, screened in the hall (dont' miss to lay on the -oh so comfy!- red cots when you watch them). There could also be temporary exhibitions of themed photographs (I saw one dedicated to Isabelle Huppert) or of curiosity, history and memorabilia of specific movies (the one dedicated to "Metropolis" was fantastic).

I hope my words can be useful, anyway here you can find more: http://www.museocinema.it/index.php?l=en

I've not managed to get there sadly - and not too sure when I might manage that for the foreseeable, but it is still definitely on the list, and your reply has reminded me how excited I was at the prospect when I saw this film.

Your description of it sounds amazing, thanks for sharing that. I could see myself spending days in there, but my family might not be terribly impressed with me if that's all we do on a holiday. Ditch the family...? Tricky choice. Cross that bridge when I get to it.

Thanks again

Well, I think children can enjoy the Museum, especially the pre-cinema section because there are many machineries that you can play. The general atmosphere is pleasing, but my opinion is very partisan :)
I can suggest you to collect as many information as you can about the Museum.
And, after all, Turin is a very nice city, very elegant and with a great history (once it was the capital city of Italian Reign); there are many other things and Museums to see. At 16 km from Turin there's Venaria Reale, that's really worth.
And -after all- a lot of magnificient food and wine! Piemonte has a very good gastronomy, I can tell you.
