The Defender

I recently viewed the DVD the Defender with Dolph Lundgren. I have been a Dolph fan for a long time and I have seen just about everyone of his movies. I am glad that he is finally directing his films. The Defender was excellent, I also was impressed with the quality of acting. I wish the film had been longer at least another twenty minutes. I hope Dolph will continue to direct he adds a great deal to his scenes. His face is starting to show stress and I noticed that he has lost a lot of weight. Since I am a martial artist fan I hope he will do another film simular to Showdown in Little Toyko. I would like to see him on the big screen again. Out of ten stars I would give this film a 9. It takes so long for his DVD to be sold in the USA.

I agree the acting was actually quite good in this and the story wasn't bad either.

I did find a few things quite annoying - the most annoying (POTENTIAL SPOILER) was the sniper - what was he doing in the initial attack? He should have spotted the guy and taken him out immediately?! In fact, we don't hear from him for about 5 minutes. I wondered if they were going to say he was a plant (as much use as anyway!) and thats why he didn't do anything. I think that really did spoil the whole film for me.

A few other things like lack of recoil on hand guns (unless someone can correct me and you can group three shots consistantly with no recoil adjustment and firing one handed).

One cool thing about the film - I'm sure the black guy was Alan out of Eastenders, thats a great step from Eastenders to movies and his acting was spot on.

Apart from my aforementioned plot hole which really did spoil the film for me - if you can look past that its worth a watch. I really hope I look as Dolph does when I'm 50!

The black guy was indeed Alan in Eastenders years ago. His name is Howard Antony and he is a great actor.

I liked this movie too, but I thought the biggest thing was that they keep firing the guns but no one stops to reload. Other than that, I thought it was cool. I do admit Springer as the president was a thing to be curious about, but he actually does a good job. I say Dolph all the way. I met him recently and he was a really great guy. I too cannot wait till his next picture.

I agree that this much better than expected and an excellent directorial debut from Dolph.
I have to give a nod to Mr Springer too - he was actually very believable in his role.
Also a thumbs up for the soundtrack too.
My score is 8 out of 10.

Decent action sequences, but plot is too complicated and has stupid twists. Standard set by Steven Seagal dtv-works, this goes for ranking below average. After witnessing Submerged or Attack Force, nothing's bad. Dolph does pretty well in this one. There's hardly any avid-farts.
