Thumbs Up for Corey + Eugenio

After many years I finally got around to watch this on a german dvd (english track included) and its beyond my understanding why this movie never got any wider release - or why it hasnt been released in the states at all.

I guess alot has been already written about the story on here, so I just comment on some of the movies qualities.

Corey Feldman plays Norman Forrester, some sort of a mix between Norman Bates and Forrest Gump - hence the name I reckon. All of the movie takes place in a hotel and its nicely shot in 2:35:1 along with very fitting musical cues (Eyes Wide Shut style) here and there.
All of the action is supposed to take place in real time, so we basically follow Corey for 2 hours (hes in virtually every scene) and its hard to understand whether its all some sort of dream or hallicunation or real but Fans of David Lynch/Cronenberg kind of movies should really enjoy this one.

When looking at Feldmans track record over the last 15 years or so, this has to be definitely his best work/movie in a long long time. The Birthday is actually featuring real actors, real sets and a real movie camera - thus making this a real cinema movie (and no, I dont consider stuff like Terror Inside a real movie...more like below TV movie quality).

So far I havent checked out any other work by this director, but he seems to be talented and the influences are there on the screen (Lynch, Jodorowsky, Kubrik, Cronenberg), making it an enjoyable, roughly 100min, movie.

Thumbs up for Corey for taking on this kind of role and even when, for whatever reason, him and this movie didnt get the recognition it deserves, he should know that this is the right direction to go. It only can pay off longterm wise as this is quality stuff.

Anyway, I hope they will release this movie in a proper way as there are tons of so-called blockbusters which deserve to be locked away forever and this movie definitely has an audience. You just need to make people aware that it exists.

Enjoy it, and dont bother watching any of Coreys recent "efforts", this is as good as it gets.
