1% of the population becomes the "Height of human civilization"

This part at the beginning of the story kind of annoyed me. 1% of the population survives and yet somehow becomes the height of human civilization. By what standard? That seems a bit impossible. It didn't ruin the story for me, but I found it strange. Sure there were stranger things in the movie but this one seemed like an obvious logical fallacy.

I have always wondered about that myself. Good qualities: basic goodness, kindness to others, respect one another. Probably more. These qualities have to be taught or you have what is basically going on today. It's like "Give me that or I'll kill you"

Actually, I wonder if it's the opposite. That human nature is basically good, or at least passive, and we have to be manipulated to hurt others.

Your idea, that we're all barbarians unless we're trained to behave, is what the elite 1% believe about us, and what leads them to lend us their "guidance"!

Personally, I could do without it.
