One of the best spy films that I've seem but I have one question and would like some opinions please.

Toward the end, just before he was caught, Hanseen was in the woods with Eric and he threatened him and said "I don't know if I can trust you?" Do you believe he liked Eric very much and he thought he could tell him he was a spy with the purpose of continue his spying with Eric by converting him to that kind of life? I don't believe he would confess to him if he didn't have a motive.

My take on it was that he was asking Eric if he was on to him and was watching him. I doubt he would trust anyone so much that he'd share his treasonable activities with them.
