2 men in a boat and that pen

i thought both were going to have more meaning! did i miss something?!

More meaning than what? I see the pen as reflection of Hanssen's personality--only the best will do. And the boat maybe showing a partnership between the two. Though honestly, on my small-screen tv it looked like two men in two boats. In which case the meaning would be opposite; perhaps some degree of alienation.

I thought it was a power play of a sort. The painting was in storage and belonged to his boss. Hanssen had Eric steal it from storage. I guess if he couldn't have the office with the window, the one he felt he earned and deserved, he was going to have his bosses painting.
