The subtitle really didn’t say much about the young skating girlfriend.
I presume that she sent a letter notifying the guy that she’s pregenant, but his father didn’t show the letter to his sun and had the baby abortioned.
Right??
And is she the wife?

You're right...the girlfriend is not the wife that we see later on.
The girlfriend that Xiangyang meets on the frozen lake is called Yu Hong, where as his wife is called Xiao Han Jing. Two different people..

Well just finished watching this movie and I thought that was a bit cruel. How does he have that authority to force someone to have an abortion anyway? And then both parents later on in the movie nag him to have a kid......
