ONE director you would have loved to have been included...

I know, I know! What if this... what if that. The movie is long finished and over with, but I still like to think what it would have been like if other directors took a stab at this. Michel Gondry and Richard Linklater come to mind, but the one who I would have really wanted to partake in this great experiment is: Woody Allen.

I know he is a very polarizing director (and person), but I think he consitantly is able to explore love, romance, and relatioships in new and interesting ways. He gets a lot of flak for turning out what many call mediocre movies, but in my opinion, a "Woody Allen movie" is still a lot better than the majority of crap that comes out of Hollywood. A contribution by Woody (maybe starring his new muse, Scarlett Johannson) would have been an interesting addition to PARIS JE T'AIME.

I love the idea of Richard Linklater doing one, especially after re-watching "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset"
Danny Boyle might have been an interesting choice, too.

hmm
I also would've enjoyed Wes Anderson's quirkiness in one of the segments

EDIT: If I had to pick one, though, it would probably be Linklater

Super perfundo on the early eve of your day.

I saw the title and immediately thought "Wes Anderson." I think he could have made an absolutely amazing addition to this already way good movie.

reply

Didn't the pre-movie short b/f the Darjeeling Limited kind of fit in with the love in Paris theme? (Although I believe a bit longer than the vignettes in Paris J'Taime.)

Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, M. Night Shyamalan
And yes, I really mean that.

Great choices by everyone who has posted so far. Alyssa, I'm especially intrigued by your suggestions. M. Night is one of my favorite directors. I know a lot of people are growing tired of his films, but I'll take a bad MNS film over the crap that mainstream Hollywood churns out on a weekly basis. Tarantino is also another exceptionally creative director, but Kevin Smith is hit and miss with me. The only film that I liked by him is what most people consider to be his worst: JERSEY GIRL (don't throw tomatoes at me!).

LOL!

QT's part would probably set in the mood of Vincenzo Natalie's part. It is amazing how that one reminds me of Sin City.

John Sayles and Ang Lee -- Sayles for the way he tells a story and establishes character, and Lee for his emotional sensitivity and artistry.

First rule of movie-going: never confuse the actor with his role.

Sofia Coppola, Danny Boyle, Guillermo Del Toro, PT Anderson.

Kevin Smith? are you stupid? I'm not saying I dislike him, but that would not fit at all. I would have loved to see Gondry, Wes Anderson, PT Anderson, Woody Allen and/or Sofia Coppola

reply

Love Guillermo Del Toro :)I would add Pedro Almodovar

bernardo betolucci...

David Lynch...take the intensity of the love scenes in Mulholland Drive, and place them in the context of Lynch's intense fan following from France...magic.

reply

I think Bertolucci already did his segment with Last Tango In Paris...any part of that film would have fit here.

This coke just doesn't taste the same anymore...

Bravo Gonzo! When we got the publicity materials for this film, which screens in Wilmington, NC next week, I immediately scanned the list of directors looking for Michel Gondry.
To everyone else: It looks like we have the makings of "Paris Je T'Aime Deux!"

reply

I just got out of a showing in Wilmington, NC...
I just love this film...
I would of liked to see Lynch or Anderson attempt a segment for this film...

I <3 Paris Hilton

A lot of the american directors mentioned here might actually end up working on New York, I Love You - particularly Woody Allen, his film Manhatten springs to mind.
Being that the setting is Paris I would've liked to have seen Jean Pierre-Jeunet do a segment, I mean he did come up with two great french romances in recent years with Amelie and A Very Long Engagement.

I think Edgar Wright (director and co-writer of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) could've made an fantastic contribution! I guess some people would still consider him new to the film game having come from TV but his style is so fresh, exhilerating and original I think he could've added someting pretty cool. Ironically through most of the Coen Brother's' segment I thought it was amazing how similar their shooting style has become to Wright's.

malick. very interested to see what he would do with a short.

I must agree, Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine are love notes themselves. Maybe he doesn't like Paris.

No love for Terry Gilliam here? Well I shall have to remedy that.

Terry Gilliam, Terry Gilliam, Wes Anderson and Terry Gilliam!
