i don't understand why disney never/rarely put sequals out in theaters first. they almost always go directly to dvd even if the origanal was a box office hit

yeah, but toy story 2 was even better than the first one...and plus that was pixar...if they're going to make a sequel, it's going to be better than the first movie.
sharedisney sequals are always way worse then the first movie....except for like lion kind two and toy story two....but besides that they are not that great, its like the movie people dont know when to stop!

Actually, Toy Story 2 is affiliated to Disney only in name. Almost everything is done by Pixar. Disney just hands them a wad of money and tells them to throw their logo on the movie. Tsk tsk.
You see that yellow stuff? That's my awesomeness.
What I have noticed is that most people hate Disney sequels but every one of them has one that they will say was ok or even good. Furthermore, no two people agree on which one that is.
My particular albatross is Lion King 1 1/2.. that thing tickles me. One line early in the film did it for me...
"Everything the light touches.... BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE@!!!!"
Kronk's new groove is OK.. it's not great, maybe not even good.. but you can never really hear TOO MUCH of Patrick Warburton's voice doing Kronk.

The aladdin sequals were good and despite the fact that Lion king 2 sucked The lion king 3 was without a doubt a great film, right up there with the first one.
I haven't seen Kronks new groove though so I can't comment on that.
To refer back to the original post though as far as I know Jungle book 2 and Return to neverland are the only animated disney sequals to be released in theatres.
I think that most of the sequals are worst than the first ones...think about Pocahontas...OMG!! That sucked!! What about Pocahontas and John Smith???! HORRIBLE!
But sure there are exceptions, such as Lion King 1 1/2!! THAT WAS SOOOOO FUNNY!!!
And about kronk's...a liked it...i thought it would suck, but i really enjoyed it!!
The thing with Pocahontas II was, that they continued the true story. And in reality Pocahontas' husband wasn't John Smith but the other guy! So for me the sequel is ok.
shareThis was pretty a pretty annoying little strategy Disney had in the 90's and early 2000's......their sequels were direct-to-videos, which have a fraction of the production cost as a feature film. Cheaper production = worse quality. I guess Disney figured their main audience with direct-to-video sequels were children under 12, so these sequels wouldn't be analyzed very critically. The home market for children is probably pretty huge and they sell on the success of the originals - fortunately John Lasseter put an end to this when he took charge. There's not much artistic merit and comes off looking like a money grab.
If you buy Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, or Lilo and Stitch on blu ray - it comes with the inferior direct-to-video sequels. A little annoying but whatever.
