anyone else unable to get them to come up at all, I selected "oui" for sous titres englais which based on the small amount of french I know means yes for english subtitles and nothing and also I can't select just off the subtitles button of the remote during playback, anything I'm missing here?

Little late, you probably figured it out... but I had the same problem. It wouldn't turn on directly from the menu, but I pushed my info button on my remote which brought up the player menu and turned them on from there...
It popped up a weird little sub-menu!!!
I actually hadn't figured it out yet lol, but I did what you said and now it works. Thank you kindly for the help, I have been anxious for my 2nd viewing of this great film.

Not sure why it was like that. The Blu Rays, each one I get seems to have a quirk you have to figure out!
I loved the movie...just watched it the first time the other day.
