SMOKING, not gay, SMOKING, bad hair, SMOKING

Boy, (garcon) it's hard to like a film where the nicotine content is higher than in French films. Just watch Un Question d'amour or Les Chansons dAmour{/i} with plenty of nicotine but room for lots of homosex. [i]C.R.A.Z.Y. has plenty of time for boy-girl action but hides Zach's gettin' busy. And the hair was painful. Not all of the fashion matched the period. I could open a window and get some fresh air. Smoking AND an inhaler??? Maybe that was his oral gratification. I still liked the movie, but who did Zach beat up in the striped shirt in school? The costumer has the brothers all weqawring striped rugby shirts, so I assumed it was the butch brother, then I thought it was the "wierdo" he later does in the car. Anyone?

I dont know but I have never seen a movie that glorifies SMOKING so much...! Shame on the director for whore'ing himself for the Cigarette companies..

I sugest you take a trip to Quebec. nevermind Quebec in the 70's. More smoking per capita than a kindling forest during dry season. The director didnt whore himself out, he just filmed a fairly accurate portrayal of the (unfortunate) smoking habits of typical Quebecers at that time.

I by no means am trying to offend any Quebecois, I just belive that this film's portrayal was a good one.

No pally, this is BRONSON, Missouri.

EVERYONE smoked in the 70s. It's not so much "whoring" or "product placement" than it is representative of the times. Besides, people still smoke. It's not the *beep* director's job to "send a message" or to make everyone in the movie role models; their job is to tell a story. Who gives a *beep* if the characters smoke?

It was the 70's!! A time before people demonized cigarette smoking. I mean, everybody 12 and older smoked back then; if they didn't show it in this film it would have been an inaccurate portrayal of the time.

He was beating up Toto the "weirdo".

Am I the only one that liked the hair? Uh...just gorgeous. And that little patch of blonde hair. :o~~

Much better hair than the singer from the German band Tokio Hotel (Bill Kaulitz or something).

I loved Zac's hair and the long hair on all the other guys, like his brother Raymond and Michelle's boyfriend who Zac fancied.

The movie doesn't glorify smoking, but it was like that in Quebec back in the 70s. You could even smoke in a classroom at University. You could smoke basically anywhere and everywhere. And people weren't as cautious as today.

Yes, that's just the way it was then. I think all my Montreal relatives smoked like chimneys, and furthermore, half the people in this movie looked like my relatives!

There's really no point in replying to a months old post, but I really don't understand people that don't watch films properly and then come on IMDb to complain.

1) The smoking is normal. Like others have pointed out, smoking was "in" back then. And there ARE people that use inhalers and then smoke. I think it's ridiculous, but that's what people do.

2) The fashion in this film matches the time periods. Also, Zac's hair reflected his music taste; and I think it was great. Ridiculous styles, but he looked good at all times.

3) Again, as others have pointed out, he beat up Toto. Toto was the one that asked him if he's ever had a blow job. He was the one that followed Zac around. Zac, in turn, was rude to him and beat him up.. because he knew that if he befriended Toto, he was admitting he was gay. In a "twist", we find out that Toto is actually doing things with Zac in secret.

It's pretty weird, and gross, of you to assume that he did anything sexual with his brother. Actually, it says something about you.

I hate so much about the things that you choose to be.

A previous poster makes a good point in relation to all the smoking; i.e., oral gratification and its symbolism. I just watched C.R.A.Z.Y. last night for the second time and picked up on a lot more religious imagery so I think there are many, many layers to this film.

It's Toto the Weirdo. Zach beating him up initially impresses his father, but compounds his disappointment and anger when he sees them getting out of the car together.

OP, watch an episode of "Mad Men" and Shut TF up.

reply

Agreed, people in the IMDB are becoming more ignorant by the minute. They state crap ASSUMING they know wtf they're talking about. Research is your friend.

reply

Agreed! In the short-lived TV show "Pan-Am", they cut the smoking to be politically correct. Completely unrealistic for the time period.
